Exclamation FLEX article, Bull**** or truth?

I just picked up the April issue of FLEX and there is an article about steroid use for those bodybuilders who are thinking about using them for the first time. In the article, FLEX flames boards like this one and they go on to say that Mods are only smart enough to register a domain, so it would be stupid to take advice from them. They say that steroids WILL give you scar tissue, Gyno, and that you won't see any net gains after your cycle is done. Basically, they trash steroids in a very negative way. I haven't stepped into the darkside yet and I am really having second thoughts after reading the article. I have done my research and I know about PCT, running test etc. but the article concerns me. We should take into consideration that FLEX has been flamed from most of its readers for "promoting" the use of steriods . Do you think the article is FLEX's way of eliminating any liability (covering their ass so they don't get sued).

Yeah you can get gyno if the proper anti e's aren't in place...but you can also get sun burned if you don't use lotion before you hit the beach...See what I'm saying?

well lets look at this logically....why would a bunch of people on a steroids forum -who clearly enjoy using steroids- trash them so vehemently? perhaps it's because FLEX is bull**** and needs more readers. Steroids dont give you scar tissue, sticking a sharp ass needle in deep muscle and forcing oil in there does. You can get gyno from steroids, to think that it is impossible is simply idiotic.

stick to the people on the board, who will tell you ALL sides of the AAS issue. Unlike flex whose sole purpose is to promote the magazine.

They are simply covering their asses. They took alot of heat over the Tom Prince article back in February I believe. Alot of readers are naive (like I was) not believing that the pros could be using AS. So this is their way of taking some of the heat off and trying to save face. The bros on here are tried and true. I'm not going to ask a vegetarian whats the best steak for grilling ? So if I want real answers I'll ask the people who have experience.

What do the mods/vets/members on this board have to gain by giving false advice? Nothing. FLEX is just a pamphlet for Joe Weider to show off his models. I trust the bros on the site to give me unbiased, educated, experienced answers, and they always do.

Yeah - its the VET's that know there sh!t dude!!!

I think the content in the mags is getting washed and useless - I was about to start a thread on that alone... Muscular Devlopment and Ironman are still awesome pubs - but many of them are starting to lose their great content... even basic grammer and spelling errors are popping up in articles...

I agree about the Tom Prince article. I think that's where it all started.
I knew the article had to be bull****, Just like most of the magazine's claims. "you don't need steroids to grow, all you need is perfect training, good diet and rest". I agree with that 100%, Steroids aren't the solution to the problem they are just part of the formula. But you can only go so far naturally. Let's face it, ALL pros are juicing, it's humanly inpossible to look like them naturally. Our bodies would never allow it. Thanks bros.

People that offer advice on the boards have no such vested interest. People here have spent countless hours reading and guinea-pigging themselves to determine the optimal methods for optimizing their potential. We share information and learn from each other. In hindsight, we can look back and see what, of all the various things we've tried, has been the most beneficial/efficient and we can then pass on that information to others so that they don't have to waste time (or potential for harm) experimenting on themselves in the same way. The only thing people here should expect from their offering of advice is that others do the same, so that we can all learn from each other.

They are losing subscribers to these boards because here (if you hang out and mingle for a bit) you will get real answers from real bodybuilders. Not the BS that you read about. It does not take a Brain Surgeon to figure out that a lot of Flex and the other Mags are regulated as to what they can say. With all tha heat right now they are making a good cover-up and at tha same time warning people about the boards to boost readership. AR and others are good for you and me...real people looking for real answers!!! Peace

Honestly what are they gonna say. Weightlifters around the world read that magazine (and I do too), and they obviously can't say that STEROIDS ARE THE GREATEST THING TO HIT THE SPORT. If this was the case everyone would want to use them, so they figure if they trash steroids then alot of people thinking about doing them will stay away. Didnt work for me.....if you do the research there are ways to avoid, or at least cut back on side effects, etc.

Welcome to the wonderful world of the propaganda machine and how it works. How do you control the populace, control the media that surrounds them. It appears that truly only in cyberspace are we free.

You all notice that FLEX magazine doesn't have an active internet presence on any of the boards.NO ads, banners, nothin.
I am assuming that the boards certainly have no interest in advertising in FLEX magazine either.FLEX exists in a time where the market driven economy(especially information) is being ursurped by the internet and they don't know how to compete for readers who can access better and truer info on the net.
The Magazines are caught in a hypocritical quandry. They picture Professional bodybuilders who look out of this world unreal. That look appeals to readers searching for the majic pill. Flex charges millions of dollars per year in advertising to supplement companies who offer "the majic pill" but what they can't tell you is all Pro's use massive amounts of gear to look like they do in addition to some of these supplements.
I fell for it 15 years ago when I first started training, Dibencozide, smilax, all that shi8.

For a magazine to flame a board like this it tells us two things.
    1. The free and accurate TRUTHFUL advice shared here is worth more than the $8.00 you pay for pictures of Monica Brandt and Ronnie Coleman sandwiched between 7 page ads for MUSCLE-Tech supplements.
    2. The boards and ESPECIALLY the mods and vets deserve a handshake and a thank you for the compliment paid by FLex. If boards were not a threat providing useful information the article wouldn't exist.

    Take it as a compliment.
Simply put, Flex Magazine is in it to take/make money on the less informed.
Internet message board like AR are not.I joined for free and have learned so much already. ASk flex if they will let you on their website for free to chat with the pro's.

    Lol

Hey man, don't forget that isn't just a 4 or 6 page "ad" for Cell-Tech or Nitro-Tech that you see 5 times in the magazine...it's a "SPECIAL 4 PAGE AD REPORT"...LOL. Don't you just love how they call them ad reports and try to make them look like articles? It's hilarious...

BBing mags, for the most part, are similar to porn......you're better off ignoring the text. The pictures are inspirational (not in the same way BTW) and therein lies their value, but the text is worthless.

This is a good post Illusion and I agree with it. Some very good points and opinions made indeed. I fell for the magic pill and always dumped loads of cashola into bunk supplements advertised in FLEX years ago as well.

Hold on a sec... speak for yourself... My expectations are very high. Especially when it comes to:

    1. Satisfying my sex drive...
    2. Satisfying my babes...
    3. Satisfying my gain of knowledge...

Last but not least, I'm just f***ing glad I don't sing like the guy from American Idol... "She Bang, She Bang... She Move, She move..."

I agree.. The only reason AS are considered a bad thing, is because BIG BROTHER cannot ethically make any money on them. But in the long run, are they any worse than cigarettes, or alcohol? Im sure there are SEVERAL more deaths and health problems caused by the latter two items mentioned. But there are plenty of those items to go around.

IMO Flex lost all credibility to in good faith claim that those AS are a bad thing, when every one of those big ass fools on every page in the book are on em.. oh my bad thats just CELL TECH, and NITRO TECH that they are taking....

Up until 2 years ago, I used to look fwd to every issue of M&F and muscle media mags...I tried everything, stupid "magic pills" from HMB, NeuroGain, methoxy-wtf, what not. Then, tousands of dollars later in subscriptions and bogus supplements, I woke up realizing that I looked the same...nothing had changed..granted, my diet was also all wrong but when u look at those mags and you have 1-2 lousy articles on nutrition (that always contradict one other btw) and tons of pages on ads and "latest supplements", its hard to know what truly is important in BB...so I just quit subscription, went into depression and went to the gym out of habit rather than enthusiasm...until I met a pro bodybuilder who for one year put me on a hardcore training and dieting program (no juice)...I put on 25 lbs of muscle in that one year alone (i was 24)...only in the last yr i have been on juice and my gains have been great. I am just saying all this because today, when i go to a book store and I see those mags sitting there and all these younger folks browsing through em, my blood boils because I know that they are setting themselves up with years of diappointment with all the disinformation and crap these mags promote. I got lucky with meeting my trainer..i cant imagine everybody having this kind of luck...DIET and EXERCISE are the most imprtant thing period...gear is nothing but something to give you that "edge" if everything else is in order...This thread just brought back all that frustration these mags gave me yrs ago, sorry for the lengthy opinion...

    LMFAO....
Actually, the first time I ever joined a chat room some asked me what I did for fun and I told them body-building.They asked me" Who turned the computer on for you?"
    OUCH
Ya kow, most guys who have had some success have to be smart just to learn nutrition, add training techniques and posing routines on top of that, then learn about juice.
Bodybuilders are probably the only athletes who can tell you what HPTA means or explain the krebs cycle in all it's boring detail.
I'm a gearhead with a college degree,a lot of time and a hatred for the un-enlightened.
