    what is better?

since i dont have a lifting partner. what would be best for working my chest dumbells or smith machine. i dont like using the machine for benching,it just dont feel right for me. and going under the straight bar while benching is hard for me cause i cant go heavy like i use to when i had a partner. and i dont like just anybody spotting me. you know what i mean. any tips or pointers.

Bro, you're like answering your own question. Go for the dumbells!

Dumbbells. You can control your line of push, can have a greater range of motion and greater contraction.

Definitely dumbells, they are just as good if not better than the bar. Machines suck.

I say use both bro.. You gotta mix it up man. I recently started using the smith machine for my inclines, as I no longer have a lifting partner myself. Load that thing up and go to failure. Place the stoppers at chest level then lay there in pain until the next set "3 minutes between sets".. Or until you throw up.
Then next chest day, do dumbells and cable cross overs.

    Kahoona..
