    It spikes your insulin level and when taken with protein it works as an excellent transport for the protein to nurish your muscles. I just started taking it myself.

    It also restores muscle glycogen(that is used during exercise.)

    the general rule of thumb is PWO = 40-60g of protein and double that of Dex. so if you are taking in 40g protein PWO you would mix it with 80g of Dex.

    IMO Dex is Dex however I picked mine up at my local supplement shop for $1.50 for a 2 lb bag. I forgot the brand name but it really doesnt matter. All Dex is is corn sugar. Good Luck.

    I haven't seen many supermarkets with it actually. You can order it online for fairly cheap if you have to.
