The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Financial Crimes Unit, is Investigating
A Case Involving A Lottery Confidence Scheme To Defraud
On 2/9/05 an unknown Hispanic female approached a Hispanic female victim in front of a business located at Sample Road in Broward County. The Hispanic female asked the victim in broken English if she spoke Spanish. The victim replied yes. The Hispanic female began crying and advised that she had won the lottery, but because she wasn’t a U.S. citizen she wanted the victim to cash the ticket and would give $ 7000.00 of the winnings to her. As the two spoke, an unknown Hispanic male accomplice joined the conversation and offered to help. The Hispanic male called an unknown person on his cell phone advising the victim it was a lottery official who wanted to speak to the victim. The person on the phone advised the victim she had to bring at least $ 15,000.00 to their office as a guarantee of citizenship. The Hispanic male and female suspects convinced the victim to get the money out of her bank. The victim and two suspects got into an unknown model red vehicle and proceeded to the victim’s bank in Palm Beach County. The victim withdrew a total of
$ 15,000.00 from two different bank locations in Boca Raton. The Hispanic female suspect obtained the money from the victim. The suspects convinced the victim to go into a Quizno’s for drinks and to obtain stamps at the U.S. Post Office located at the Shops of Loggers Run. At the Post Office both suspects disappeared with the victim’s money. No other information is available at this time.
SUSPECT INFORMATION: A heavy-set w/f (Hispanic). She appears to be about 5’5”, 135 lbs, dark hair. Hispanic male well dressed.
