Flies for me is all about the pre, stretch at the bottom of the movement, obviously the angle of the bench determines what area of the chest your hitting. incl,, upper, flat middle, decline lower. Just make sure your form is spot on,,Originally Posted by Tig
if you squeeze at the top it works the inner, if you keep it wider its the outer. but it pretty much works for the development of the entire chest.
yep the chest contracts as one muscle. The angle just puts more stress on certain areas.Originally Posted by 31uniform

I guess i felt it in the entire chest...if anything, more in the outer chest. Hard to tell cuz i do all kinds of bench presses too, so the whole chest is feelin' it.Originally Posted by SwoleCat
Thanks fellas.
flyes are different from presses in two basic ways. 1.) they let you to stretch the pecs to a greater degree at the bottem of the movement. 2.) they allow for a more concentrated contration at the top because the shoulder joint may adduct further inwards as compared to presses.
the additional stretch and contraction help develop the pec as a whole as said before, but place a much greater stress on the very outer edge of the pec.
