my buddie won't listen to me and he keeps using 25g by 5/8 on his gluteus
medius.what acctually happens if you use to short of a needle and don't
hit the muscle like your supposed to?

I am pretty lean and although I use 23's I would have no problem using a 25 in my butt cheek. If he's got a lot of meat back there then he may just lose his gear in the fat layer.

The medius being on the hip he should have no prob with either a 5/8 or 1" as long as he's lean enough.

5/8 in glutes is a bit short IMO unless your bodyfat is extremly low. 1 inch is good for below 10% bodyfat and 1.5 inch for above.

If he does'nt hit the muscle the AS will eventually be absorbed by the fat surrounding it. However, they may be more chance of an abcess due to this.

I never buy anything but 1-1/2" pins. I can use them for any injection site. 5/8 is way too short for glutes. So, why buy them at all?

i use a one inch in my quad and i dont have a problem im probally around 12% bf but i dont know if i would use that in my glutes!

seriously, the shortest i would ever go is an inch and thats for delts, 5/8 is useless.
