Good info on P.O. boxes..

As some of you may or may not know, r00tz, a Canadian bro and a member here and at many other boards was busted last year. I recently had a chance to talk to him and he gave me some info he would like to pass along.

P.O. Boxes - If its registered under a fake name, this is probably the safest way to receive, only downside is if you do get caught, there is the whole identity fraud issue. If its registered in your name, that eliminates 95% of the anonymitty and value in having a ' PO box'. It literally takes a phone call and the info will be turned over. The only advatange in that case over a home addy, is that its harder for them to know when the pack will be picked up and by who. But the PO box does present some problems.

One of the major problems with a PO box is the postal employees. Especially if it is just a noraml sized outlet, they will notice things, like quantity of packages shipped, incoming mail picked up etc. I will venture as far to say that a 'large' quantity of express shipping will catch their attention as well.

Couple things, one, make sure the package is weighted relative to the listed contents, if its listed as a "DVD' and its packed with gear and ends up weighing 2lbs, this will definetly raise suspicion. Remember, these people are handling packages for a living, they know what a DVD should feel like, weight wise.

Also, even if it is domestic, all vials should be extensively wrapped, my suggestion would be to wrap pill bottles too. If you have ever handled a pack with loose bottles, you can easily hear and feel what it is. Don't assume that postal workers will simply not pay attention or not care.

Postal employees are encouraged to report any suspicious packages to the postal inspector.

Another point I'd like to talk about is the ideal that Po Boxes are safer because you can access them at night. Oh thats right, because cops don't work at night, oh and if someone passes by, you picking up your pack at 3am every month doesn't look suspicious. As you can tell by my sarcasm, I disagree with this idea. The postal workers still put the package in your Po Box and if the cops are looking for a controlled delievery, 3am is great for them, usually not as busy as the daytime, would definetly be a lot easier to keep surveillence on you.

As far as picking up a package late at night....yes, it's definitely not as busy as far as traffic is concerned.....but.....it's a helluva lot easier to check out the area to see if the place is being staked out by LE. And, by the way, they will not be sitting across the street. They will be at least a half a block to a full block away waiting for a vehicle to pull into the parking lot. Then they will check out the vehicle and occupant with binoculars.

but wouldnt they know and find odd weighted packages or loosley rapped bottles, anyway, without the p.o. box, someone still has to sort it, even it it goes to your house, id say in general good packing should be an all around thing. not just for p.o. boxes.

Yes, and you can bet they will not be in a squad car either. The biggest problem is realistically, most po box outlets are more then likely going to be located in places where it would be normal for there to be cars parked and driving by.

You are correct, however, if you know what you're looking for, it's not that hard to find the stake out car. LE doesn't drop out of sight with each passing car. They are either sitting upright or at best, slouching down but you can see them in a car if you're looking. And you're right about their vehicles.....it's not a black and white. In fact, contrary to popular belief it's not a black suburban or a chevy impala or ford crown vic with black wall tires. For DEA and/or local narcotics squad it's usually a very sporty, expensive vehicle that has been seized in a "real" narcotics arrest. I've known narcs and DEA that drive vettes, BMW's, Mercedes, Lexus, Cadillac Escalades, etc.

if you are worried about the fake Id issue for opening a po box I would just find a bum to open it with an ID card.

Here in Portugal for us to have a PO BOX we need to show ID so it is hard to fake our ID.

I too dont see the point in getting a PO BOX with your real name. Why not just use your home address? Assuming you dont have to sign for anything, a home address seems safer, imo.

I would prefer to just leave a delivered package on the front door and take it in when I feel it is safe. With that said, if they are indeed watching the package, wouldnt it be likely that they would try to do a controlled delivery anyways? In that case you refuse the package.

I suppose all of this is null if you have a wife and kids and such. For a single man like myself, I see no point in a PO Box unless you are using a fake name.

true, and alot of times they send them and you dont need to sign. so if someone knocked on your door and asked for a signature, you could like you said, refuse it!

Precisely. Seems that 'smart business' in thsi line of business would be to surround ALL of your packages around not needing a delivery. Any package that arrives that needs a signature is common sense. Maybe get a PO BOX for all your 'legit' packages so you never have to decide between what is legit and what is a delivery.

Other than that its probably a good idea to just not have your address known to the people you do business with, for some obvious reasons. There I can see the point in getting a PO BOX.

Well...at the P.O. and MBE, you need to supply state-photo ID to get a box, if I'm not mistaken.

Yes, definetly. There is a huge difference between using a fake I.D. to register the box and putting a name on the package that isn't yours.

from what i know about p.o boxes the're only usefull if your trying to hide your gear from your kids, or gf/ball and chain.
