Length of time for muscle recovery?

How long until a worked muscle group is fully recovered/repaired? I know it happens during rest but does that mean that a two hour nap after the gym would start the process? Is the muscle still recovering/repairing the following day so to speak?

I'll wait until the muscle I worked is no longer sore. Usually I get legs, chest and back once week, delts and arms I'll hit twice and abs I work 3-4 times a week. It's worked well thus far.
