Personally I feel best in the gym after eating a bowl of oats with whey. As far as how long you should bulk, well, that part is up to you my friend.
Well for example today I had 1 bagel, a banana, and a two scoops of On Whey protein.
Just make sure that you eat something about 30-45 minutes minimum before you go to the gym, otherwise its not gonna be enough time. How long you bulk is up to you, say you want to be a ripped 215, maybe your 200 now, so to be a ripped 215, you need to bulk to a bulky 223 and cut up to 215.... does that example kinda help? lol
