hello there i work in comet in the warehouse , iwould think any high def tv is the balls also get yourself the best monster cable you can get to take it even further
I have a Panasonic 42" Plasma and am very happy with it, Panasonic makes great TV's, that would my choice.
the biggest one there
high definition technology relies on the number of lines the tv has to 'draw' the picture picture quality is about resolution it is made up of many lines of pixels.
the more pixels the beter
a standard tv has about 625 lines
hd can go up to about 1080 lines
all improved picture quality,clarity,colour definition.
the two tvs i like are
pioneer pdp436xdeta & sony kdlv40a12
hope this helps
Whatever one you choose buy directly from japan you can save as much as 1500 big ones. Reason being is they slap some plastic on it and raise the price 1k.
i have a 48 inch panasonic and think its great..samsungs are decent tho too.
you have a link for a place?Originally Posted by Nicky B

Wish I could give more advice but I just look at them and drool, never really though about spending the cash to get one.
sony all the way
yep.. the Fujitsu P50XHA10 is the best one out there right now.. as far as quality goes..
but i don't want to spend that much..
anyone else.. ??/

first off, i would only suggest buying from Costco or the like. The reason is as you know that the tech will always get better and the price will always drop.
so, Costco is a good bet because you can always return the tv even a year later with no reciept...my buddy used to work there. I have a 42 inch dlp samsung...actually I bought it for SK...its awesome...great color and sound etc..but its not a plasma...so were gonna return it this week and pay a few hun more for a hd plasma from sanyo which is a true HD which they had at the time of the samsung purchase BUT for 5 grand.... i have a 42 inch daytek plasma which is a edtv and I'll be takin that back in awhile too....to get a newer HD.
dont worry too much about the lines ..if its HD its gonna show a good pic, what you wanna look for is a high contrast ratio....something over 3000:1 is good ...some have 10000:1 but thats pricey. Its the difference between black and white contrast...
just get the one you like and return it in a year...catch is tho that you need a membership and that you need to or should at least buy some other shit there so you dont look like a fukin deadbeat....
which I know you are.
call me.
Plasma nothing, crystals always die just after the warranty is up haha

oh ya, hmm i think i need sleep, i still wouldnt buy plasma though, costs are too high and there are CRT sets that outperform their pictures.Originally Posted by Dally

if i was u i would go for an LCD tv and not a plasma. plasma gases eventually run out, and they cannot be refilled! i used to work in an electrical store, and we were told that, despite being a bit cheaper, LCD was the better of the two
plasma can also 'burn' an image onto it if the image is left on long enough. for example, put on a dvd that has white writing in the title and forget about it for an r and a bit, and youv got that white part of the title on your tv for good! this can be removed, but only by 'whitening' the whole screen!
with LCD this doesnt happen. also, LCD tvs, providing they dont break, can last for up to 25 years before a small tube will need replacing!
lcd my friend, but what ever tickles ur fancy!
lcd is good yes...but doesnt have the brightness or color range that a plasma can produce.
like I said, get it from fukin costco and then return the muthafukker for another one in abit of fukin time gatdammit.
im not saying this for my fukin health ....listen to me and DO what I fukin say.
geesus.

yeah but LCD's for the same size are way more expensive. Plasma TV's have a life span of like 8,000 -10,ooo hours, thats like 15 years, I'm pretty sure you'll be in the market for another tv by that time.

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't plasma tvs have a short lifetime? like 7 years or something?
EDIT: ehh nevermind I gotta start reading the whole thread before i post![]()

Just so everyone knows. There is no point to buying a non High-Definition set. All broadcasts and I mean every station must be in High-Definition by the end of 2006. I think theyre voting right now if they want to make it sometime later.

by the end of 2009 all tv stations must change out their transmitters to new HDTV transmitters. This ONLY over over the air broadcasting, their feeds to cable and satelite companies can remain non-hd (known as NTSC, as opposed to ATSC which is the digital HD standard).
Now even once this is done standard-def NTSC programming can still be sent out over the digital transmitter at its native resolution, or just stretched and upconverted to fill the widescreen format, but it would still only have the resolution of standard definition TV that your used to now. its expected that stuff like news programming is not going to be in HD for a *LONG* time because of the issues associated with producing it, including basicly rebuilding every news van on the road, ever microwave tower they feed signals back to would need ot be upgraded, increased cost for satelite encoders that can do HD, etc.
now with that out of the way I'd still def tell you to buy an HD set, i have one as well. I have a plasma only because that was really the only choice when i got it 3 years ago. If I was doing it now I'd go with a DLP projection TV because they are cheaper to get one that dispalys the full resolution (1920 x 1080). Both Sony and Samsung have models out now that are native 1080 definately go for one of these sets as oposed to a set that only supports the lower resolution HD standard of 1280 x 720. Both sets will display both resolutions, but if you have a set that can only display 720p then obviously a 1080 signal isnt going to look any better then a 720 one. Most of the HD signals out there now are in 1080 (CBS, ABC, NBC, ESPN, MSG Network) all produce their HD content in 1080.
so are non high def TV's going to be outlawed or something? screw you guys, buying TVs worth twice as much as my car. I'll stick to my 27" Panasonic I bought when I was 18, where the red bleeds into everything and hums loudly when theres too much white in the picture (bad for watching hockey).Originally Posted by Psychotron
So whatever tv you may choose remember the conections ''now let me point out this is a must'' get yourself the most expensive monster cable and rig it up to your digital box and youl be sure to have an even beter picture guaranteed
even tv's without Hd can do this and improves the picture dramaticly
What's this DLT technology crap about?
Are projection TV's any good?
No, they will just stop production on them. The govt. is setting aside like a billion to give out converter boxes so you can keep on using your analog set.Originally Posted by PrairieDawg
