    Pre workout meal for energy

My female friend is in a low carb diet but can't make it through her workout. What should she eat before gym for energy without ruining her diet?

    Thanks

Although this is "pre-workout" its a diet question, you'd get more attention there since not all people that visit here are dietary specialists. The people there know all about pre-workout meals

She either needs a pre workout stimulant. AMP, ECA, Ready For War etc....

    Or some Carbs

ECA would be great, or just like 200 mg of caffeine...

If not that a bowl of oatmeal with some protein won't ruion her diet, but it will help her with her workout IMO...

Carbs man, she's gotta eat carbs. Why is she doing low-carb anyways, is she obese, insulin resistant?

The first couple weeks are low carbs on the South Beach but after that I believe a bowl of oatmeal or yams is permitted. Not 100% sure though.

I would try and talk to her about eating carbs. Atkins and south beach had their time in the sun and now they have been basically dismantled by the scientific and nutrition community. Carbs are not the enemy, it was all just another fad and another way to make a quick buck, stemming from the mistakes that were made during the other BS fad, the Low-fat diet.

I explained the importance of complex carbs and that she should it them. I was just trying to help her out with this one question. Its on her if she wants to lose and gain every other month. Those diets suck

Yeah! 100g of sugar won't mess w/her diet. j/k. You don't need that many carbs if they are quality whole food carbs (oats, sweet potato, brown rice). All of which, i believe, are "allowed" in the south beach plan. about 25g w/ an equal amount of protein should do it.

I try to do cardio on an empty stomach and after that I weight train. Sometimes Im just so hungry so I carry my 1/4 cup cooked oats with water & splenda and 5 egg whites with me to the gym. Right after cardio I gobble it up. Then return to my workout. Try that.

Thats a much better idea than training on Empty. You should really just eat your meal, train and then do cardio.
