    Deadlifts What day?

I've always been under the impression that deadlifts are meant to be done on back day, but my buddy seems to consider them more of a leg exercise.....i haven't been doing deadlifts for a while and want to start up again....and hopefully do them on back day....but just wanted to know what you guys think.

I don't like to do them first, I like to give my lumbar region some other exercises first to prepare them for the load of deads. but if you can handle it and that is how you like to do it who am I to tell you different.

Back day 100% for me.. I do them third in my routine. I like to pre-exhaust my back with other things and then hit them.

They are an excellent hip extensor (glutes and hamsrings) exercise. The reason is because there is a great degree of hip extension during the performance of the exercise. The knee extensors (quads) are involved to a lesser degree. The lower back and upper back (scapular adductors-retractors) act as stabilizers during the exercise. It can be placed on back or leg day. If you place deads on back day, you wouldn't want to have a leg day before or after a back workout (that involved deads). Squats tax many of the same muscle groups that deads do (for example).

With that said, I place mine of leg day.
