I would go and see a doctor if it doesn't get better soon.

Yeah, I guess I'll have to but I've never found doctors to be much use with back stuff.

This right here is the prime example of tight and sometimes unconditioned muscles. Not saying that you arent conditioned but it's just the fact that one can move heavy weight in the gym and feel unstoppable and pull a muscle picking up a piece of paper. We talk about this in class all the time and relate it to "weight lifters." I've seen people deadlift 4 plates like its nothing then pull a muscle in the locker room picking up their towel. This happends all the time and it WILL go away. Just takes longer for some then others.

When I first started lifting this would happen to me occasionaly. Now that I'm working towards the PT field I've learned more and more how important strecthing really is. For anyone that is reading this and have ever undergone PT you could all agree that they stretch the crap out of you for quite some times before even adding any resistance into your routine. The day you are discharged they will recommend the same when you get back to the gym. Our mentality is "why waste time stretching, I cant wait to go hit the weights." You do that and I sometimes do that, but just a brief warm up and stretch can avoid minor injuries as such. Also depending on where you live its very cold so your muscles dont like that. A warm-up and light stretch is crucial, especially this time of the year.

To better answer your question NS I wouldnt see why GH would benefit a pulled muscle. The severity of the pull will be determined by your doctors best educated guess. And yes I did say guess.......................

Good post jay,I can`t run my daily 1 hour runs unless I stretch well before hand.If I don`t my legs become quite tight at around 30 mins,I never use to have this problem, but as you get older you become more Delicate. Yoga is Fantastic,I`m new but the furture benefits are huge.

I would definitely take time off the gym. This has happened to myself and a few others in the very same area. Actually, a couple of weeks ago I was in a rush and didnt warm-up. Started heavy and felt a strain in my upper back. Right away I backed off and warmed up and it never reappeared.

You'er best interest is to take a couple of days off the gym. Stretch out the area on its own and concentrate on holding the stretch for a good 25-30 seconds. Not a 4 second stretch that some consider strecthing . Then check back and let us know how it feels in a couple of days.

I went to one of my professors when this happend and he told me the same thing. A chiropractor wont do $hit. A Physical Therapist will stretch you out on his own and put a heating pad on the area then tell you to do the same on your own. Whoooooooopie. Take a couple of days off, it wont kill you. You have plenty of time to get big before your muscles hit the beach.

I'm telling you the body is an amazing put together phenomenon that can survive under the worst conditions, Buuuuuuuuuuuuuut it is still very sensitive in many ways. Stretching is a MUST IMO. People have a tendency to overlook it, that is until they get hurt then need to do it. The trick is to continue doing it even after you're feeling better.

Rest it throughout the day but be careful stretching it now as it may further aggravate it. I'd rest today and start stretching it tomorrow. Try stretching it in a warm environment so its relaxed, use a heating pad if needed. Let's try to get you back in the gym ASAP.

    LMAO!
In between reading your previous post and this one I've given it a damn good stretching! - I did it on monday though so it's had a couple of days rest.
I'm now sat with my girlies hot water bottle wedged between my back and my chair - feels nice but I'll be sweating my tits off in a minute or 2!

With all back injuries, it is all a matter of getting those strained muscles to relax again and then giving them a break for a few days. If you have anything like flexeril or soma, taking that for a few days while applying heat and resting it will usually get you on your way a bit faster, but it is really just a matter of resting it, then afterward gently getting some stretching and gentle movement going back into it.

Best of luck to you. I can really sympathize ... I have episodes of similar problems. I have to say in general that while the body is a amazing thing, the aging body and the aging process really stinks!
    Thanks RB
I've had the hot water bottle on it for over an hour now, stretching every 15 mins or so and it's noticeable looser/more comfortable already.
