Better to eat b4 cardio in AM?

My whole life I have read and heard that you should do cardio on an empty stomach, in the AM, to increase the amount of fat the body burns. But my girl showed me this article the other day that said you should eat something light to stimulate the body to burn fat. If you don't eat and do cardio on an empty stomach, it's like crash dieting and you will lose water and burn muscle. This is really bothering me, please advise because to me it goes against basic principles of biochemistry.

you will burn muscle easier at a HIGH heart rate. thats why it is of the utmost importance to keep your heart rate between 60-70% of your max. personally, i keep mine in the lower half of that!

Actually Booz just explained all the logic you need. You eat before, you burn wha tyou eat. You don't eat before, you utilize fats for fuel. Quite simple, don't pay attention to most articles, they are mainly BS.

I've always been a night time person but I'm going to start doing morning cardio for the better results.

    I'll do it Booz Style.

    But just to confirm:

If I took 20 grams of whey protein before my morning cardio, the protein would be used as fuel before my fat would be used as fuel?

I feel pretty stupid for asking that question because everyone would have said that protein is ok.

So I guess Booz Style it is.

Cardio performed in the morning on an empty stomach is more beneficial
    for fat loss due to:

1)After 8-12 hours of sleeping (a body fast while you’re sleeping), body storage of glycogen is low and when glycogen is low you will burn more fat for energy

2)Eating before morning cardio causes a release of insulin. Because low insulin levels are present in the morning you can burn more body fat.

3)In the morning you have less carbs (glucose) in your bloodstream; therefore, burn more fat

4)If you eat immediately before a workout, you have to burn off what you just ate before tapping into stored body fat (remember insulin levels are increased after eating)

5)When cardio is done in the morning, your metabolism stays elevated for a period of time after your workout is over. Cardio in the evening allows you to burn calories during the session but there is no after-burn effect due to the fact that your metabolic rate drops dramatically as soon as you go to sleep.

This is part of an article I read....Don't know if i'm 100% correct, but it just makes sense I guess

Here's the formula for finding your target heart rate zone (as someone mentioned earlier):

To perform aerobics effectively you need to calculate your target heart rate zone. To do this subtract your age from 220 to find out your maximum heart rate, so if a person is 30 years old then:

    Maximum heart rate.. 220 - 30 = 190 beats per minute

Then multiply your maximum heart rate by 65%:

    190 x 65% = 123.5 beats per minute

123 beats per minute will be the lower range of the zone.
Now work out your higher range by multiplying your maximum heart rate by 85%:
    190 x 85% = 161.5 beats per minute

The example reveals a target heart rate of 123 - 161. When exercising the heart rate should be within your own range at all times and to burn more fat you should exercise within the lower range. Exercising at the lower range enables the body to take up enough oxygen so the cells can utilize stored fat. If you workout within the higher range of the zone but you will burn more calories however most will be in the form of carbohydrates and less total fat.” (http://www.weightlossforall.com/)

Doesnt ****ing matter really, because bottom line is your burning more calories throughout the entire day than your eating. Your body is not going to tell itself "Woah now, hold up, we just ate 2 pieces of toast w/ some eggs b4 cardio, stop all fat burning immediately!!" The only thing cardio is doing is burning off calories and working the heart and respiratory system. It's not like your burning fat during cardio, your burning it throughout the entire diet regimen and much of it in your sleep, which is why I laugh at people who will sacrifice an extra hour-two of sleep to go do cardio first thing in the am. I dont know when people are going to realize that am cardio is over rated, your body doesnt work on a day to day basis when a diet is usually 10-12 wks long, it's about overall adjustments. And your body does not ONLY pull stored fat for energy, it wants to take a little muscle too when your bodyfat starts getting lower than 9-10%, which is why i believe a light meal 30-40 min before is a better idea, pull 300 cals from food, pull 3-400 from fat. What the **** sense does it make to do it on an empty stomach when I've already burned say 5-600 more cals than I've consumed yesterday? This is how our bodies work, they fight to resist change. The human body is not meant to lose 30 lbs ONLY FAT. This is my theory on the whole ordeal. Which is why I'm huge advocate of cardio after training instead of A.M. You dont want to lose 5% bf in 5 or 6 wks(which is what am cardio will do), I'm telling you guys it strips muscle too fast and will not do as much on changing proportions rather than losing overall size. Flame away gentlemen

Nah, won't even begin to comment. I know how easily angered you get, and I'd hate to logically tear the entire piece apart and put it back together w/rebuttals.

well in theory, having zero carbs, or nutrients in your bloodstream, stomach to be, or being broken down and used for energy will force your body to turn to stored energy if you do cardio on an empty stomach, i dont lose size when i do it that way. so thats my logic
