How different are they? I love oats and it's quick and easy to cook. Was wondering if it would make much difference to have my tasty oats instead of rice.

.....
Thanks Marcus. I was lookin at a chart and saw that 1 tsp of fructose had a GI of 23, and 1 cup of orange juice had a Gi of 46? I was always under the impression that fruit had a high GI. Why does everybody avoid fruit in their diet?

whaaat!!??! i thought oats had a gi of like 80....?
Marcus - what is your source for your information. Just curious.
I just looked it up, all seems accurate. Mine is out of a text for a Human Nutrition course I'm taking
I could have sworn brown rice had a lower GI than oats. Damn.
What does it mean by slow cooked oats??? Mine take like 1 1/2 -2 minutes is that slow
marcus is that based on a GI scale where white bread is defiend as 100 or dextrose as 100??
the table I always use has brown rice as 79 and oatmeal as 76
i think the slow cook oats have a lower gi beacause they are not ground up and digest slower. the fast cooking oats are ground up and are digested easier so they have a higher gi. this is all if you eat oats and oats alone. the gi will be much different depending on what youre eating with them
