    Stupid fvcking gym

Damn university gym. Dumbbells stop at 100s. 100s. Seriously wtf? I can never do dumbbell shrugs, bench, incline, decline, shoulder press without having to do a bunch of reps. I gotta grab a 10 or a 25 and have a kid balance it on the top. Today some kid did fine with the 10 but then I had some other smaller kid try doing the 25 and it was awful, pretty much almost pulled my shoulder out of place. He had one on there, then dropped the other 25 and tried holding the other one while he picked up the one on the floor. I ended up holding the 100s at the bottom positions balancing the 125 on my left hand for like 30 seconds. By the time he got them both on, I couldn't even get one and I was burned out as hell. I'll never ask a small kid for a spot again.
Also..the stupid incline benches have settings like every 6 inches so for incline dumbbell its either barely any fvckin incline at all or its practically a shoulder press. WtF? I try putting a 5lb plate in between but it always falls out cuz I weigh too much I guess, and I almost end up dropping dumbbells on my head. Piece of shit gym...ahhhh

I feel you, chest. i went to a university as an undergrad with a shitty gym (and it was a well-known university!). They spent all their athletic budget on the athletes gym, us "non-atheletes" got ripped. i got into the athletes gym one day and it was just fvking sweeet!

Balancing weight on weights sounds pretty dumb. I wouldn't do it and complain to the ppl who run the gym. doesn't cost much to get more. I feel ya though because NYSC only has dumbells that go up to 120. I will have something to say abuot that

Girlfriend, why don't you buy a pair of 20 inch olympic dumbbell handles? Then for your heavy dumbbell exercises, make them up with loose plates. You can get a half dozen 25ers on an olympic handle, and the handles with collars weigh right at 15 pounds, giving you a pair of 165 pound dummies! That is enough for most dumbbell work unless you are truly monstro. Don't bother asking the gym to buy them... they get stolen. Get your own and keep them in your locker or gym bag. And do NOT use spring collars on dumbbells! They will fail, invariably dumping a bunch of plates on your toes from chest high. Use proper thumbscrew type collars.

I have known guys who trained with nothing but dumbbells. Many home-gymmers do that... buy the handles and 3-400 lbs of loose plates, then buy cast dumbbells in the smaller sizes as money allows, for more efficient sessions with less time spent on adding or removing plates from the handles. This makes for an inexpensive and compact home gym setup.

    Love
    Anna

Agreed. Barbells for mass, dumbbells for reps. Just do your BB front shurgs and then super set with it behind the back. That is until you by your own dummies like Ana suggested.
