Give her a gift, but make it out to be something small. Wrap the ring in a diff size box and tell her you were food shopping or were out and thought about her so you wanted to get her a little something to show her how you feel. The element of surprise worked pretty well for me.

if its a engagemt ring. i did this, i steamed open a fortune cookie and put the ring and a new fortune in there that read will you marry me. it was a really cool idea. she went with that at the wedding and the wedding favors were fortune cookies dipped in chocolate.
