    High protein hindering fat loss?

    6' 188 14-15% BF

I workout out Monday through Friday night with Heavy bag on Saturday and do morning cardio at 75-80% every morning and take Sundays off. I raised my protein to 32-340 a day a few weeks ago and have had more energy, fuller muscles and I am gaining strength but the damn scales will not budge. Lost no scale weight in 8 days. My pants seem to fit better and I feel alot harder. I have not cheated (food) in 43 days. I used to have a full blown cheat day once a week with about 7000 calories when I used to cut and get to around 177 pounds. What is going on. Is the protein too high, Is not cheating hurting me. here is what I have ate every day in 6 weeks with 2 3000 oatmeal refeeds thrown in every 2-3 weeks.

    Cardio for 45 minutes
    40 minutes later
-2 scoops whey 1/2 tbs. flax oil
-12 egg whites, 1 slice american cheese, 3 fish oil capsules, 1 can green beans
-8 oz. chicken, 1/2 tbs. flax oil 1 can green beans
    preworkout
-2 scoops whey, 1/2 tbs. olive oil
    PWO
-2 scoops whey, 50 grams carbs (smarties)
-12 egg whites, 1/2 tbs. flax oil
-8 oz. chicken, 6 fish oil capsules, 1 can green beans

    Usually hits around 2000 calories.

    What is going on?

I have done the higher fat with lower protein (260) but feel like crap all day and get way to stringy and thin. Can adding protein and taking away fat really make that much a difference.

One question I do have - after reading what you posted is: What type of fish oil are you using and what is the content of them?

Adding up your EFAs - you only have 1.5tbspns in there (excluding the cheese and fish oil caps).

The only theory I could come up with is that your EFAs are still too low. I would experiment for 2 weeks at a time increasing your EFAs slightly...

Giantz should come in on this one - I can't think of anything else.

One thing I personally haven't liked is carb loading such as you are doing. I feel that it is important to have energy to burn throughout the day in the form of good low GI carbs, as well as a good amount of EFAs in any diet. To me, with a little to no carb diet, I feel as though it is depleating your good energy source too much - which could in turn lead to fat storage. This is just my personal theory, there is no science to conclude this that I have read.

Thanks for the reply. There where time when I had 3 tbs. of oil a day and a serving of walnuts and fish oil. My fat was around 80 grams a day but my protein had to be lowered due to the amounts of fat. During this phase I did lose more weight but my muscles deflated and felt way too thin. The fish oil I use is EPA natural fish oil. 1000 mg per capsule.

It could be possible that you need to cheat.

I wouldn't suggest going crazy, but maybe throw a cheat meal in your diet once every 2 weeks or so. This might get you to lose some more weight without changing your daily intake.

Not sure about calories. I usually eat 2000-2200 to lose 1-2 lbs. a week. I read a while back on a post that if the scales do not budge but you are losing some inches on your waist slowly and body is harder that you indeed are building muscle and losing fat at the same time. I just get so impatient. I am used to seeing atleast 1 1/2 pounds come off a week and I am not seeing it. I used to be 290 lbs. I am a serous endo I feel. Thanks, heading out, it is leg day, yippie!

I've also noticed too - that an experienced diet... in other words, a diet that you have been on consistently for some good time without change, will tend to have less effect after a certain period. You may have reached that time - and it is in need of a change - that's why I thought of the cheat meal, might "shock" your body into losing more fat, quicker.

    Just another thought.

Good luck bro, keep us posted.

Im really tired so I might have missed something...but do I understand correctly that you only take in carbs PWO?...

You need more carbs...thats why your muscles are "deflated"...if you dont eat carbs everyday you should load some carbs at some point...I dont think your diet is healthy as is...

Now correct what Ive said...cause Im sleepy...

Decided to up the fat and lower the protein for 3 weeks and then I will post results. I will change nothing else about the diet.

How much fat do you all get per meal. I am 6' 188 15% BF. Except for CKD I have had 15-17 per meal with good results but I was just curious to what others did while cutting.

you are definately not eating enough carbs. you still need them even if you're cutting. you should just lower your protein and increase your carbs.
