Artificial sweeters - some like sodium?

Muscular Development, MAR 2006 pg 306

"Also, this is a good time to knock out all artificial sweetners since some contain sodium or salt moieties amounting to table salt equivalents."

    - Carlon M. Colker, MD, FACN

I put on a few pounds at a point where I shouldn't have in my diet. I did start drinking more of those Crystal Light to-go drinks in some water around the same time. Is there a possiblility that even though it is suppose to be zero calorie and sodium-free, the artificial sweeteners can cause water retention?

Not sure about the water retention. But have read a few studies that artificial sweeteners increase appetite and u might have been eating a tad more. To be honest for me....As boring and chitty as it sounds my best cut diets have come when I strictly drink water. Weight loss for me is slower when i add diet soda, crystal light, etc Not sure why... Myabe ur sodium theory holds water. No pun intended
