    skippy natural peanut butter....

I just found this at the grocery store while stopping to buy my smuckers natural p.b. Its the skippy brand natural p.b. but with out the oily mess and it taste great, just like jif and all those others. The only difference I see is that is has palm oil. Is this stuff as good as the other natural brands of p.b. or should I be leary of it?

As long as its not partiallt hydrogonated Palm OIl it should be ok. I'd still stick with Smuckers.

My natty pb's ingredients are...peanuts. That's it. I buy it from a natural food market we have here...I'd be a little leary, I know there are other brands, that dont have added oil, (Adam's comes to mind, Ingredients=peanuts, salt).

I noticed that the skippy P.B. has some sugar in it, like 4 or 5 grams per tablespoon. Thats the reason I stayed with Smuckers.

I think skippy has 3g per 2 tablespoons and smuckers has 1g. They both still have 6g of carbs I think..

peanuts contain a fair bit of omega 6 and omega 9, hardly any omega 3. But its a good fat anyway. Plenty of non essential fats that are very benificial to health, immune system, cholesterol ect.

Palm oil has a high amount of saturated fats for a vegetable oil ... dont really know why you would add that particular oil to PB..

My nat pb is just organic peanuts....

Palm oil is listed as one of the 3 "Tropical oils" next to Coconut and Palm Kernel oil. They are the only 3 saturated fats that are not solid at room temp.

I had an extensive argument with one of my professors b/c he stated that ALL saturated fats were solid at room temp. I kindly told him that wasnt true and he got a red and pissed at me which was kind of funny. And he's the one teaching the class, go figure............Johan you get up there.......

That sounds like a ignorant professor .

I wonder if palm oil(virgin and not the hydrogenated shit) has as many health benifits as coconut oil.

what benefits does coconut oil possess? I was under the assumption that the tropical oils were the ones to avoid.

Interesting read johan, i'll finish it after classes. Do you supplement with coconut oil, and if so, how much do you use?
