    spy bot

    SpyBot-Search & Destroy 1.4(NeW!)

Spybot - Search & Destroy can detect and remove spyware of different kinds from your computer. Spyware is a relatively new kind of threat that common anti-virus applications do not yet cover. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you didn't intentionally install, if your browser crashes, or if you browser start page has changed without your knowing, you most probably have spyware. But even if you don't see anything, you may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging that is silently tracking your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile of you that will be sold to advertisement companies.

Spybot-S&D can also clean usage tracks, an interesting function if you share your computer with other users and don't want them to see what you worked on. And for professional users, it allows to fix some registry inconsistencies and extended reports.
Spybot-S&D can start in two modes: Easy mode for new users who want just the basic features, and Advanced mode for professional users and those who want more control. Both modes are available in the free version.

I use F-secure Antivirus 2006, best antivirus ive ever used and ive used alot of them. And the good part it uses almost no Ram so no lagging n shit.

oh and also note that Svchost.exe is not a virus, if ur running Windows XP, there should be about 5 Svchost.exe in the tasklist. There are viruses that can infect svchost.exe or change their name to svchost.exe.
If u wanna see how many svchosts ur pc is running, do this: click start/run, type cmd and hit enter. when the commandprompt (or what ever its called) shows up type "tasklist/svc" now you see a list of all the svshosts.

Hey Bro, I'd get a spyware program, (webroot, spybot or adaware) then get Norton or McaFee. Run sweeps with both then do a disc cleanup and a defrag. This will help tremendously all by itself. I would also clear your casche and cookies. If your CPU is still running slow, I'd look into adding more memory. Peace.

I had Norton on my comp for years ran regular scans and such then I herd about NOD32 so I gave it a try and it picked up 3 trojans norton didnt!! So I installed it on the servers at work and found 1 virus McAfee didnt that scared the s**t out of me more than my home comp problem. So after a bit or research I found NOD32 and kaspersky AVs to be head and shoulders over the rest. But your problem sounds more like spyware/adaware the best thing to do in my opinion is get as many legit ones you can (there are lots of fakes that just install spyware) some of the best being Ad-Aware SE personal, spysweeper (beware of the 100% cpu problem), spy doctor, bulletproof Spyware Remover, XoftSpy to name a few, baring in mind many windows services use svchost.exe so try disabling some of the ones you dont need http://www.answersthatwork.com/Taskl...s/tasklist.htm
look up whats running and see if you need it.

i've used norton system works since I got my computer and it's work fine except it came with a program called GoBack that caused my computer to crash 3 times. i've since removed it but it was a nice program.

If your looking to clean up virus's I recommend Bit-Defender, if your looking to clean up spyware, then Webroot Spy Sweeper. I've helped and worked IT for some time now and have tested it all..these 2 have been the most impressive. They have also been tested and highest rated on PCWorld.com just in case you dont want to go by me If you cant seem to get anything to work, a reformat should do the trick.

I like Panda Anti-virus. its not free, but work supplies it for me.

Spybot, Ad-aware, windows defender and hijackthis.exe for spyware.

Not sure about firewalls, I have expensive hardware at home for that.

I do computer work and AVG is the shizzle, NOD32 works great, but they dont have a free version however there are ways around that . AVG is the way to go with its free version and since they recently bought Ewido which is one of the BEST spyware/malware removal programs out right now and offer it as a free version also, its the duo to go with. Only mess with hijackthis if you know what your doing cause you can really screw up things with it if your not sure what to remove. www.hijackthis.de is a site where you cut/paste your log from hijackthis and it automatically analyzes it for you and tells you what to remove. If you guys get any problems that you cant get rid of shoot me a PM or email and Ill help you out.

most will work.. after installing apps, and getting some alterations to the OS, you will need to reinstall anyway..

    to maintain peek performance..

that's why ghost is great.. make an image right after you finish building the machine, and reinstall often..
