plasma
dont go plasma. lcd is much better. the only advantage of plasma is size, not quality.. if it wasnt for your price range id say actually go with a 52" rear projection. mitsubishi is making one that is 1080p. amazing picture.
Plasma
Pixels burn out on plasma's after a couple years, I'd go with LCD.
they both end up goin at the same time. plasmas + lcdOriginally Posted by Cardio Kitten
Come on guys this is just like cycle advice. Give me some stats:
How big is the room?
How far will you be from your TV?
Is your room dark all the time?
What are you replacing?
Did you like your last TV?
When plasma' first came out they lasted about 20,000 hours now they claim to last 60,000 so even if your tv is on for 24 hours a day thats still 7 yearsOriginally Posted by Wiggum
a year ago when i bought my tv plasma's were expected to last ~10 yearsOriginally Posted by MeanMachine2000
i went with lcd because they are expected to last ~20 years and it was less expensive
i believe the only advantage to a plasma is the flat panel...personally i love my lcd and would buy another
my room is about 16' x 12' so I'll be abot 10' away, theres one sliding glass door and one window so with black curtains I could keep it pretty dark and I am replacing a 32" Hitatchi tube tv which is my roomates and Im moving out so i need a new one. I have a 20" flatscreen which was fine for my bedroom but now is just too smallOriginally Posted by Streaker
projector
either the 42 or 32.
I got a 42 inch Song Wega the thing is awesome.
my neighbor just got a 62 inch Mitsubishi Rear projection and it looks like sh1t dont waste your money on old technology
It depends, you play alot of games buy the LCD...even look into a DLP projection. Plasma for every day TV watching is the way to go though. Dont believe that shit about life of pixels or "gas" and other BS...obviously stuff can go wrong but if it works right it will last a long time.
plasma
exactly what i said.. i sell tv's. ya a plasma looks cool hanging on the walll but theres no way to help out with the picture over time like how rear projection you can change the bulb after every couple years. also he said he had 1500 to spend on the tv.. if you get a plasma or lcd it will cost you between 500-1000 just to hang it on the wall. Exactly, plasmas are weak and images can burn into them.Originally Posted by anaBROLIC

If you were happy with the 32" Hitachi then I would go with LCD. Just be sure to check the contrast levels on the LCD. Some LCD screens have a lot of trouble showing contrast in dark parts of movies. So while watching a dark movie like Sin City you will not be able to see anything.Originally Posted by MeanMachine2000
If you want to go bigger look into DLP. You can't hang them on the wall but most are less then 20" deep. I would avoid Plasma and old school projection.
I have a 42" Sony rear screen LCD that I hate due to contrast problems. Have fun shopping.
fvk it. throw out your tv. I don't even own one.
i got a 42' magnavox plasma for about 2000 from best buy. great tv i watch oprah if i have to
