airing out shoes (strange question)

i just started going to my school's wrestling club and since i just started i dont have any shoes. so another guy offered me his old ones for tonight. i kept them because i wanted to air them out for him and i didn't want him to have to deal with it. other than just airing them out, how could i show this guy the respect i feel he deserves? and for all you smart asses, im talking about taking care of his shoes, not baking him a cake.

can you get Fabreeze there?. I use it on my gloves sometimes.

There might be a reason why he doesn't use an odore eater!.
