draining the fat in lean ground beef?

assume you use 95% lean ground beef and cook it, after you drain the fat juice through the strainer would this make the beef slightly leaner?thanks.

Cooking beef over the fire of a BBQ grill works great.. Dont mistake fats for juice... but to answer your question, Of course.... less fats dripping off is less ingested...

this is a good question. i oftentimes wonder how much fat i'm really getting from my red meats as well, saying as i do know much of the fat from within the meat is drained off from the juice.

the fats actually heat up and become liquid at a certain temp, so much of the fat is actually drained from them when draining the liquid. if you don't think it's fat you're draining off, pour it into a clear glass and you'll see though some is watery, there is an oily layer as well. that's the fat.

i think it would be very hard to estimate how much is being taken out in this process though. all depends on the cut (steak, ground, etc) and how much fat was in it to begin with. if anyone did have a guestimate though based off of someone who had nothing better to do than test meat before and after cooking and draining the fat, i'd like to know as well.

I use 4% ground beef and don't even drain it as it's so lean to begin with.

(Per 4 oz. it's 25 grams of protein and 4.5 grams of fat)

Taking out any more of the fat would render that stuff extremely dry like dog food.

chek it.........ground beef??? get those pre made patties for the grill they sell in packages of a huge stack...usually like 5% fat involved they say...95% lean...then....go get urself a foreman grill....wa la...no draining needed..it reduces fat and cooks wonderfully and will cook a steak, burger, chicken watever the same way and WAY MORE THEN HALF THE TIME OF A BBQ

I've done burgers on the GF grill and not bad, Steaks on the other hand taste like shit to me. Since the weather is getting nice I'd rather take the time for grilling, can't beat the taste. Haven't done chicken yet on GF.
