my new dvd burner wont read anything

im having real problems with this..i bought an internal dvd burner...nec by the way...and then bought a dvd enclosure to put it into...so i hook everything up and windows finds the drive and everything is installed great...it was reading regular cds fine but then i put a dvd into the drive and its like it doesnt know what to do with it...ive tried many different dvds and still nothing..its almost like the drive isnt a dvd drive at all...any suggestions

ok now it reads it but wont play it....

ok some time it detects it and some times it doesnt..by the way the drive is hooked up via usb...maybe thats why...maybe i installed it wrong inside the enclosure??i dont know how i could have done that though cus its pretty self explanatorty

Might be the enclosure itself? Or maybe that NEC burner (i'm a ssuming it's the 16x model) doesn't like USB... You might want to go to there website and flash the bios on it to a more updated version. Just a thought.

well thats wha tive been doin..i flashed it using another places bio because my anydvd program comes up when i put in a dvd that the drive might be locked to another region bla bla bla and to flash the drive..well ive gone back and forth doing different things and i got one dvd to work of mine but for some reason its the only one that works....im really stuck here and not sure what else to do

its not making any sense...only one dvd is working..i have another real dvd that wont play and i have a burned copy of another that wont play...when i put it in it seems like its loading..then when i go to click on the drive it says its empty like its a blank disc or something...i have no idea wtf is going on

uh...did you flash it before all this started h appening?

If so...you flashed it with the wrong bios....flash it back to factory (i assume you kept it )

yes i flashed it back to the normal bios and still is not working

could be hardware...you know not every drive that comes out of a factory works...if you just bought it...return/exchange it just to rule that out. I know that NEC burner... it's normally good quality / low problems.

well i bought it offline so i gotta go through the whole online return process..i think im just gonna go to bestbuy and get an external plextor drive..im tired of this bs..unless u have a better suggestion

have u tried to run any cd images to play pirated games or somthing?
