due to the anabolic state of the body 15 min after working out im thinking that the faster the carbs get into your system the better.

but im getting the vibe that, thats does not have to be the case.

the reason guys eat high GI carbs is because they want to elicit an insulin "spike". however, eating low GI carbs after a workout will still elicit an insulin "response", and an insulin "response" is all that is needed pwo, IMO.

Gatorade -mal/dex blend. Drink that and mix your whey with water.

Plain sugar - taste too sweet tho.

Depends on how you feel tho...I like dex, gluc levs go up and I feel very refresehed after working out. Slower carbs, yeah, slin spike, but I like the quick re-fill

nah, you need a spike. thousands of budybuilders would not be buying dex if all they needed was a "response" whatever that means anyway.

u want your insulin to yell back at you like WHAT THE **** DO YOU WANT? instead of a "response" like "sup dude..."

    what exactly is dextrose?

  15. #15
    dextrose = corn sugar

its less sweet than table sugar and is very easily absorbed, creating a quick insulin spike perfect for PWO application

Aha, but isn't a normal gainer good in that case or is it best to take dextrose by itself?

Thousands of bodybuilders use dex because of 2 reasons.

    1) They are using Insulin
    2) They are basing their choice on old research that has since been outdated.

If you understood insulin and its mechanism's you'd understand that creating a spike PWO is needed.

But this debate will never end, and I'm fine with that. All I ask for for people who insist a spike is needed, is proof.

Point is you need some for of carb PWO. You can use whichever you like, I like a lower GI carb be cause I'm a bit of an endo and gaining fat is easy. Spiking insulin is the very last thing I ever want to do.

i know a lot of guys think this way and are using slin in the first place. but i have been seeing great gains from dex. yes i used it, but after reading and being intoriduced to new information i do not think it is needed. but hey if it works, don't eff with it right.

All you're doing with dex is speeding up glycogen replinishment. That's all well and good, but what does that do for you? Injecting 10iu's of slin and drinking dex is another story, ie protein synthesis.

Giants...have you noticed a decreased propensity to store fat when using a higher GI carb PWO? It makes sense theoretically but I am curious as to what your actual results have been.

Not to BS you. But I noticed a big difference in my ability to shed BF when I switched to Low GI. And I have noticed no Ill effects in terms of recovery etc...

I'm a type 2 diebetic and cannot have the dex in my PWO.
I've just been going with the whey protien shake with milk which has a little sugar in it but not so much that I will tip the glucose meter afterwards.

I have recently been thinking of adding a bannana to my PWO for a slightly higher intake of sugar but not sure if it would be beneficial or not.

thanks Giants...I'm also a bit endo so maybe I will give the no dex thing a shot once I run out of my current supply.

Doesn't the mere presence of food, ie the act of eating, spike insulin?

it triggers a response, but not necessarily a spike.

really depends on your diet, and how many carb calories you have to spare in a PWO meal.
