i havn't gotten yet. I respect it alot. But i have found that some people are more prone to it than others. Some people get it within there first 5 months of grappling / fighting. Some of us go years without. I think it has to do with size of the ear too because i have noticed the people with smaller ears in my gym got it pretty easy...where as I haven't and I have a bad habbit of leading my takedowns with my head exposed so it's not like i haven't had my ears rubbed alot.

If i got it though i'd wear it like a badge of honor.

Btw, this is me as a baby.

I have a little bit but not much like Zimmy said some seem to be more prone to it I have wrestled my whole life and mine is barely noticable most people dont even know I have it, well some seem to tap there ear and they have it. If its not bad dont drain it if it is really nasty I would recommend draining it.

yah gotta drain it...even if you like what it stands for. If you don't it'll just gush open in a fight or tournament.

i like my ballbag! anyway, yeah some ppl are more prone, i knew a guy that got cauliflower ear within acouple of months of regular grappling. id done it for afew years, and never even got any ear discomfort. again, he had very small ears. if i had it, even though it looks gross, id be proud lol

    ears

My dad has it in both ears as do I. I have never gotten anything but respect for it. The few that might have made derogatory comments about it had no idea what it is or how you get it. It is not a blood clot when it hardens. The human body can not repair cartilage, so your body sends osteocytes(bone cells) to the damaged cartilage and it becomes bone. You don't have to respect it, just know that guys with it have earned it.

man this board is a jinx. First i post about not fighting forever and a day...then i get in one and now my ear is soar as hell for the 3rd day straight. It's not swelling too bad to the point where i think i need to drain it but it is annoying :|

It's kinda like stretch marks on huge people (muscular). You don't really want it, but if you have em...gotta have respect for how it came about.

I was about to post the same thing as Swolecat until I realized that you were exactly right. I love fighting sports and I respect just about every professional fighter out there. I think cauliflower ear looks nasty as hell but, yeah, you gotta' respect how it came about.

In Iowa, a cauliflower ear can make you a celebrity. I have NEVER had a problem getting some...........but I am a stud as well.

I dunno... from a female's perspective I can only think

    A) you weren't wearing the proper head-gear (and yes I know certain sports you don't wear any) and

    B) You need to work on your defense skills... if someone keeps poppin' you in the ears with their fists um... where were yours?

If you are a fan of fighthing and appreciate those "sports" no matter how archaic/barbaric, I suppose that's viewed as "O.G." to have your ear named after a cruciferous vegetable. I was never into such activities so I honestly have no place to say what it is/is not.

From what I gather though from those I know and women in general, it's not something that they put a checkmark next to on the "what you look for in a man" dating questionaire.

Logan13 is from Iowa which much like my native minnesota is a huge wrestling state. So I am sure that girls down there much like here are use to cauliflower ear and probably have a thing for wrestlers.

in most grappling sports... you don't get it from getting punched in the ear...you get it from having some one rub it to hard...usually from escaping weak headlocks. And unfortunately the head gear does make your head a little less slick making those escapes a little bit more difficult. Just like shoes in brazilian Jiu jitsu... you can wear em so your feet don't get caloused but they make it harder to escape leg locks.

for the record...i havn't gotten tail in so long i don't think it matters anymore :P

uhhh... what are you doing that you got it? I only got it from wrestling and would drain it before it hardened.

In college, I would drain each ear ED and get anywhere from 3-6 cc each time. Man that sucked. I had part of the bone in my left ear cut out, but it hurt so damn bad that I didn't even attempt to have the rest of it taken care of. The only bad thing about cauliflower is that in the winter, since there is very little blood supply in my ears now, my ears tend to freeze.

Funny thing though, only wrestlers/fighters that I have really ever seen with cauliflower ears are the ones that are accomplished. Usually happens in college and/or international wrestlers. Look at a picture of any Gold-medalist Olympic wrestler, they ALL have cauliflower ears. I do not think that they need your defensive strategy advice..........
