heavy and speed bags...which gloves ???

I'm about to buy a heavy bag and a speed bag. Im not sure what gloves I need to get for each. I'm about to start boxing for the first time and need to know which gloves I need for both bags.

    Thank in advance

well make sure you get some wraps too, as they will protect your wrists and hands (and esp. thumbs) for the heavy bag, and then i would get something from 12-16oz. for heavy bag training (personal preference) and then a set of bag gloves for the speed bag.

don't just try to go hit the bags on your own though. make sure you know form and can have someone periodically check it.

Just tape the hands up for a speed bag. i dont know how you'd use gloves for it. I use 16-18 oz gloves, 12 oz hardly even fits on me.

use light bag gloves for speed bag .... start heavy on the heavy bag 14 oz or 16 oz... and wrap your hands go easy the 1st couple weeks till your hands get use to it.

whoa thats way too heavy, i boxed amatuer in 3 golden gloves contest at 45 fights sparrs per year and at that weight, even with wraps, you can sprang your wrist on an awkward K impact from a punch..look into 8oz n make sure your thumbs are on the side, not over your fingers...big mistake people make

but as far as your other advice JSN, you on the money man!!

you gotta feel out the core tho...if you cant feel the bag, your gloves too thick! dont worry about shedding either...with that much oz weight your gonna bounce off the bag rather then make a hard impact

I hit the bag 5 mins nothing but power hits EOD with bare knuckle wrapped wrists and i leave a few blood stains which in time, tightens n tuffens the knuckle...so when you do spar on the street haha or when you actually get stranded in those bullshit 6oz 1 round fights for free agent pickings...(man....wanna shoot myself when i know those are comin....)

ditto with the handwraps only on the speed bag. You're goal is not to hit it hard- just speed and timing. I use 16 oz on the heavy bag.
