    Basic F*!@ING question....

I'll preface this question with an "I'm sorry"...I know it is a ridiculously newbie question to ask but I have to ask it because I am actually confused by the sheer volume of information at this site!!

Before I go to the gym....
Is it HIGH GI foods I want or LOW GI foods that I want?
Based on the answer above, what are the best HIGH GI foods and the best LOW GI foods??
Do I want to eat things like tuna and other high protein foods or is just a protein shake sufficient??
Do I want to eat high carb foods pre-workout for the energy factor instead of high protein foods?

    Post-Workout.....
Protein shake AND a high GI food or just a protein shake??

For the record I am not trying to bulk I am trying to cut....mainly trying to get into bulking shape by trimming BF% by 4-8 points and cutting down overall weight by 10-25 lbs.

    Thanks guys!!!

Preworkout you need LOW GI carbs. You need an energy source to get you through your workout. I always will have a pro/carb meal or a whey/oats shake 35-45 mins before I hit the gym. After the gym is individual preference. Some like a high GI shake such as whey and dextrose..and some like low GI like I said earlier such as whey/oats. Right now I have whey and dextrose and I am cutting..its been fine. Either way..I think you need to have carbs BOTH preworkout AND postworkout. Don't forget a post post workout meal 1 hour after you consume your post workout shake.

Shouldn't this be in the diet forum?

GI is based on the carbohydrate being consumed on an empty stomach alone, so adding other foods to the carb drastically alters the carbs GI. The G Index is useless IMO.
