pain in hip flexors while squatting

i love going heavy on squats but lately i cant go over 225lbs - without screaming in agony

well i think its the hip flexors that are hurting anyway
i'm not sure - but i know its not my groin, and it definitely not a muscle
its a ligament or tendon or something - on the upper thigh near the groin

    what can i do?
    any streches?

i also cant leg press heavy

ive noticed this pain after 6 weeks after i changed my deadlift to sumo style
i dunno if this has anything to do with it?

it sounds like its your hip flexors. but they are a muscle, not ligaments or tendons. they connect at the top of the inside of the femur...which is where you described. i feel them when i use the ab crunch machine sometimes.

here is a picture of the hip flexor muscles: http://www.paddlesup.ca/doctors/images/hip-flexor.jpg

stretching out helps, also you may have a weak lower back which would put strain on them, or weak abdominals..... anytime a muscle is over/under developed in the lower trunk area another muscle compensates for it and discomfort can be a result.

I am prepping for a show right now and having the same problem, I havent squatted since the 7 week out mark and it sux. I have found that I am able to tolerate hack squats as long as I put my fleet close together and when I push up, I push from the outside of my feet and bow my knees outward slightly, this takes the pressure off the hip flexor. I also have to concentrate on moving the weight very slowly and controlled. I think the only way to get rid of this though is to take a week or two off from leg pressing movements completely, maybe just do extensions for those two weeks. Unfortunately I cant do that right now though since I have a show coming up, but afterwards, I plan to not do any leg presing movement for 1-2 wks

    thanks guys

i think i will have to take a couple fo weeks off pressing movements
it was leg day on friday and i stretched for a full 15minutes and attempted one light set of leg presses and couldnt complete the set

doing 8 - 10 sets of leg extensions aint fun

i also used the abducter/aducter machines cos i thought this may help with stretching

    but it didnt
i think it actually made them worse
