Short term all protein diet......three weeks??

Had a personal trainer at work sugges to kick off some great fat loss....go on an all protein....not high fat....around 2K calories and no more......for three weeks doing cardio daily and lifting twice weekly....HIT training.

Then go back to a regular High protein, moderate carb diet.

What are thoughts on short term all protein diets??

Sounds silly. You need a proper combination of all three macros. It's all about timing and proportions. Refer to the cutting sticky, hit cardio at least 5x/week in the am, and lift your ass off. Post your stats and current diet that way we can make suggestions.

EXTREMELY unhealthy. To be honest if that trainer gives suggestions like that I would ignore everything else he has to say. Fat is crucial for just about every process in the body.

Great input as always. I suspected his advice was questionable.

damn, that trainer has no idea what he's doing. you need to at least have some amount of carbs and fats as well. if you deprive your body of all carbs and fats, it will innevitably go extremely catabolic, your energy will drop and so will your metabolism. plus, once you start eating fats and carbs again, your body will soak them up and store as much as it can as fat in a "self-preservation" mode.

as far as only hitting the weights twice weekly, i'd do more than that. i drop my volume a bit when cutting, but i still hit the weights 4x a week to help preserve muscle mass while cutting. if you decrease your weight training too much, they'll try to break down to adjust your metabolism to your caloric intake. you need to keep training them with a fairly moderate intensity to keep your muscles thinking they're needed and that your body should be burning fat and not muscle protein.

Not a bright idea at all, but you've already heard that in this thread and for good reason.

Good thoughts on the workout. Hard to do so much cardio and workout 3 or more times a week....time starts to run out. I see what you are saying though.

If I stick with my 3 day split and hit cardio 6 times a week, that shoudl get me the fat burn I need. Once I get below 10%...I will adjust my cardio down and weights up as well as diet for slow bulking.

No carbs/fats for 3 weeks? On a high protein diet with no fibrous veggies, I'd gain weight because I couldn't take a crap.

Your trainer is an idiot!!Look up rabbit starvation. Its where the native indians who had nothing to eat but lean rabbits in winter would get sick.

I am following an all meat diet now and have been for 9 days.So far ive lost 8 pounds and am starting to feel really good.It doesnt look like I am losing muscle as amazingly the weights are the same or moving up.I eat tons of fat though, more than half of my food is fat from bacon, steaks etc..

Edit....I wanna add that I have not touched a veggie, fruit or any carb whatsoever in the past 9 days. When I shit now I dont even wipe.No smell at all...very weird.I feel way healthier.

Wow no carbs for 9 days...I would pass out lifting weights! Is there a reason your going for the no carb approach? Bro, that approach is just asking to lose muscle...but whatever works for you.

I have tried atkins in past and felt like hell. This due to my body never entering ketosis and I now believe due to eating the veggies and salad.I try to follow the sticky and feel real bad as if my body just cant handle carbs.

So I went scouring the low carb forums and found this

    http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthrea...3&page=1&pp=15

As for passing out lifting weights...On the way to the gym I felt terrible today and yet I was pushing the same weight and felt actually stronger.I will grow from my workout no doubt. The guy says that after months on diet you will become ketoadapted and feel wonderful all day long.

If I didnt have this problem I would not eat just meat but Im gonna stick this out as it seems ill hit an early grave even eating low carb.

The guys states that anyone who has diabetes should eat this way and I believe him.Thats the way they did it in the old days before injectable insulin.I dont have diabetes.

If that works for you then great...me personally, I can barely workout much less function on anything less than 100 grams of carbs each day (I'm cutting at a little under 190 grams).

Why i think its working is the fact that atkins never did.My body converts too much protein to glucose and so I couldnt get into ketosis. Now that I only eat meat,i seem to still be making carbs from protein.I wake up flat and by end of day my muscles are full. Not full like from carbs but I can sense a bit more tightness.

The guy from article states that over time and once ketoadapted the body will never turn protein into glucose and instead make all the glucose from fat only. You really do have to love fat though
