Do you think we are gonna enter WWIII?

I really do not know what is going on in the world right now, but it appears that everyone is getting into shit with everyone. Between N.Korea, Israel, and whats going on with Iraq, everyone is saying we are about to enter another world war.
    Does anyone feel the same?

Seems like it's already pretty much started... I don't see us backing out anytime soon.

It is a tense time right now worldwide: India, Africa, Iraq, Iran, N.korea, lebannon, Israel, and Palestine. For the bigger countries to get invloved, the violence would really have to escalate. This is further evidence that the UN is worthless. What conflicts have they truely resolved in the past 10 years? Can someone please tell me what the reason for their existance is?

Nah. Basically this is a conflict that is being overseen by superpowers who are involved to protect their own interests. Nothing going on presently could start a war that would pull enough of the superpowers in to call it a "World War".

Rest assured, the nest "World War" we have will probably be the last, interpret that how you like.

I agree. The current UN is rather bloated and useless. It seems like everything they do ends up being for nothing. Besides, how can anything get accomplished when the major veto powers don't see eye to eye?

Maby the UN's first intention and the reason it was created was resolving conflicts. But today I think its most important task is the aid it gives, the fight against aids, the IAEA ect.

Not everything is about conflicts Disease kill many more people than war. Famine aswell. All we hear about is the conflicts. I guess its not as sexy for news reporters to report on the good job the UN does to fight disease and famine and improve education.

I would agree with that, and perhaps the UN does serve a purpose. But I am all for doing away with the Security Counsel, one leg of the UN that is truely worthless and does not live up to its own charter.

Agreed. The middle east is the equivalent of of the IT guy at your job. No one likes him, but no one tells him because everyone needs him for something.

As long as the middle east has OPEC, the world will continue to revolve their affairs around it. But if it came down to a war that involved anything but oil distribution, no country is dumb enough to risk all out war simply for the Islamic fundamentalist bullshit that is causing the conflict in the first place.

If Iran has nukes, God help us all. I must say I hope I live long enough to see the mass production of hydrogen powered cars. I savor the idea of the day when the world can tell the Middle East to blow itself when this kinda shit starts...

I realized my previous post was a bit blanketed. For the record, I have no problems with the hard working people of the Middle East. They are victims of circumstance and are being pulled every which way as the world tries to figure out what to do with them.

It is a sad state of affairs that innocent people are dying over there, but again, I savor the day when the prince of Saudi Arabia can no longer cover his 19th Mercedes in diamonds (as opposed to feeding starving people) because all the oil money is gone.

The good thing about these conflicts is that they drive oil prices way up. The western world are starting to realise they can not depend on oil anymore. The higher the prices the better. Its just a forewarning of what to come when those oil well starts to run dry anyway.

Id say start mass producing diesel out of coal instead and start building power plants in order to produce hydrogen. Screw the middle eastern oil. The higher prices are well worth it in order to distance ourself from the shitheads grabbing all the oil money in those countries.

To bad no politician would be able to get the support from the avarage joe to implement any kind of long term plan like that. Maby its human nature to be short sighted as ****. But now is the time for politicians to become visionaries again and not just poll whores.

It's only a matter of time. I agree with you in the sense that it's positve that these times are drawing us closer to getting rid of our dependence on oil. Unfortuneatley, it's gonna take a catalyst that hurts our pockets. Enviromental awareness isn't doing squat. It stinks on the short term though. The market has gone down over 3% in the last three days!

I don't think there will WWIII anytime soon, disregarding accidently firing of a nuke. But there plently of civil wars and regional interfighting and none that should cause any global fighting. I see the supposed nuclear threats of Iran and North Korea as mainly crying wolf. Quite reminicent of what was said about the Soviet Union and how crazy they were and how they would end the world. Saber rattling isn't going to win allies or solve anything.

Cuban Missle Crisis. We never have stood for that kind of shit and we never will. BTW, recall that the CMC was handled under the last really good Democratic president, JFK. Back then, Dems did not stick their heads in the sand and hope that things get better on its own. To be fair, Clinton (who I voted for 2X) could have been a better president were it not for the Lawonski(sp?) scandel.

The Cuban missle crisis was just a another tit for tat between the US and the Soviet Union just like berlin blockade. The US placed nuclear missles in Turkey that could hit Soviet cities so the Soviets responded by putting nukes in Cuba. The Soviet Union ended up withdrawing it's nukes from Cuba and the US removed it's nukes from Turkey.

I am not a democrat or a republican and have not voted for either party.

I would like for you guys to keep an eye on the UN during these times and the continued call from the worlds nations to support them.

The UN really doesnt have to much power yet but I think that this is going to change very shortly.

And honestly It makes me think what kind of actions that a world governing body would empose to try and protect peace???

I can bet some new laws are going to pop up after they do get more power regarding some of the key factors in war......... namely religion
