Best taken with fat and little or no fiber, I like taking mine before bed.
Good point IFX, most dont realize the importance of not taking it alongside fiber. Taking it fat will also help transport some of the fat soluble Vits.
I only take time released Multi's. I hate GNC but have to say that I love their Multi's. One in the AM and 1 in the evening with meals is enough to take advantage of the enrobing process of the multi.
Just please dont tell me you take a Centrum or 1 a day, ughhhh.
lol i do take a centrum once a day..... wuts a good multi to take?
I like one a day W/O Iron by twinlab.
The only thing I dont like about Centrum and the rest of these one a day tabs are the absorption rate. They only have "X" amount of time to distribute all the label vits/mins and its very difficult to absorb all of them in one given tab. Never the less a tab that isnt time released.
Think about it like this, I"m holding a hand full of marbles which will represent the vits/mins. With a one a day I'd be throwing you the entire handful and expect to catch them all. In reality what will happen? You'll end up dropping some and other will roll out and you want get them all. Now, take that same handful and periodically I'll hand you a few at a time. Now what happends? You'll be able to take them all and not drop any. That's what a Time released Multi will do for you.
IMO there's a huge difference. Dont get me wrong if its a substantial price difference then go for the One a Day or a centrum just at least do yourself the favor and take it twice a day.
Another problem with these one a day tabs is that once your body digests the tab it utilizes as much as it can and the rest is flushed out. Taking too many vitamins will simply result in expensive urine. Taking too many fat soluble ones can really result in problems. I really love Time released Vitamins. IMO the wave of the future for all vits will be in a time released tab. They're even coming out with Time released protein. I think it's bull$hit. They seem to be made up of a complex of diff types of proteins, which obviously take longer and less time to be digested. Hence labeling it as time released b/c the isolate is absorbed quicker while the casein takes longer. That's marketing at its best.
Jay you take Megamen Sport?

I've been taking the Mega Man Time relased Multi in the black box for as long as I can remember.
Mega Men sport came out couple months back. More BCAA's and things that people like us need in a Multi. BTW I got yoru PM call me laterOriginally Posted by Jayhova
I take the simple apporach. I am both cheap and poor so I buy the cheapest brand I can find and dubble or tripple the dosage. 3 servings spread over the day.
The ammount of potentialy toxic vitamins and minerals in them are far to low for it to be any danger to tripple dose it.
I also chug down a gram or two of vitamin c with the tabs since vitamin c increases absorption of almost all minerals.
The thing about fat. As far as I know it makes no difference whatsoever to take fat soulable(How the F is this spelled?) with fat or not. The ammount of fat needed to absorb them are so miniscule that its impossible not to have it present regardless if you eat fat or not. I cant give any abstracts though. It was some time ago I read that in a vitamin/mineral book(I checked the refs when I read it and it seemed to be accurate).
Offcourse I supplement individualy all the important minerals aswell. I never rely only on the multivitamin only. I just take the multivitamin to get all those things I dont supplement with like copper ect.
Most multivitamins are dosed efter the RDI and RDI of most vitamins and minerals are laughably low. 50mg vit c![]()
i take one with my first meal, and one with my last. i like the timereleased idea, but i'm guessing its expensive for a BACS (broke-ass-college-student).
A time relased basically does that for you. Your approach is similar you just need to take it 3 times a day or so, like you do. I'm sure it's cheaper compared to some of the MegaMan's out.Originally Posted by johan
What a crock the RDI and RDA for that matter are. Such nonsense especially for people that are actually active and not overweight like 60% of these fat Americans. Almost seems like they base them on people who live sedentary lifestyles.Originally Posted by johan

Yeah. What realy cracks me up is that the RDI of vitamin c for a damn chimpanze is 2 or 3 grams while for a human its 50mg or something like that. Pretty ****ed up since humans have just about as high need for the vit c as a monkey.Originally Posted by Jayhova
I cant figure out how they even determine RDI. Is it just the bare minimum to survive or what is it even based on??

I mean come on, 0.8g of Protein per Kilo??!!?!?!?! That's like 60g of Protein for me weighing 200lbs. WTF kind of crap is that!?!!??!!?!

Why is it bad to take a multivitamin with fiber? Is it because it gets excreted fast before the body has a chance to absorb the vitamins? Thanks!
Dude lets definitely not get started on this one, lol.Originally Posted by johan
I'd recommend Am and PM. They claim to have 3 layers dispersed about 2-3 hour per so each tab should last 8 hours or so. On average we're up 16 hours a day, cant get any easier with the math on that one.Originally Posted by boxingbean
What did you plan on seeing? Are you referring to more energy or what not? General health and preventative measures cant really be measured. I know what you're saying though buddy, you pay that much for a multi you would think to see something different. Just keep in mind what the more concentrated levels will be doing for you. Vitamin A for vision, teeth, bones ,skin, hair, Heart disease, liver funtions, etc. Vit E for heart disease and cancer, elasticity of muscle, endurance, etc. Vit B's for energy production (Coenzyme) nervous system, liver functions etc. Vit C for Infections, colds, Flus etc..... The list goes on and on for all of these plus the rest.Originally Posted by InsaneInTheMembrane
Always keep in mind that Vitamins and/or minerals dont provide energy. Energy comes from kcals and obviously we know where those come from.
The fiber somewhat doesnt allow it to be released. Insoluble fiber will basically carry it out and prevernt absorption.Originally Posted by style74
I guess they are swedish brands. Right now I take something called everyday.Originally Posted by 24labor

The only things I have ever "noticed" is that if I supplement with magnesium and potassium I feel more "charged" when I hit the weights. Kind of hard to explain Im just a bit more explosive each workout. Not a big difference but noticable.
The other thing is that when I started mega dosing vitamin c(20grams/day) I got a tremendous energy boost. I could hardly sleep. I was hyper alert all the time and it feelt like I could run 3 marathons) But that effect disapered after 2 weeks or so and I have never gotten it again. It was extremely odd.
The most noticable effect I have ever gotten was the way mega dosing of vitamin c completely healed my bad knees. I have yet to figure out how that worked because its completely irrational. But I had bad knees for 4 years or so and at the end they where so bad I was limping badly after leg workouts. But after 1,5-2 months of high dosage vitamin c my knees where like new again![]()
in your opinion what are the most important vitamins/minerals to supplement individually with?Originally Posted by johan
vitamin c is without a doubt the most important vitamin to supplement with imo.Originally Posted by zodiac666
Second to that I would say vitamin e and zink.
As third the b vitamins, potassium and magnesium.
the supplements I take are
Vitamin c 10-15 grams
zink 60mg
Vitamin e 100mg-200mg
selenium 100mcg
magnesium 500-1000mg
potassium (hard to tell dosage since I use a potassium chloride mix as table salt instead of just sodium chloride)
vitamin b6 400mg
vitamin b12 4000mcg
folic acid 1000mcg

The ones Johan mentioned are at the top of my list as well.
