I wouldnt say clomid is NECESSARY, but definitely I would use something along with nolva, I dont personally think its enough. Use an AI along with a SERM, that is always a good bet. But run nolva always a week or two past the AI.

i personally hate clomid i have horrible sides from it i have heard that you can run nolva only do a search im sure you will find something on it
