    Gear & Losing Bodyfat

Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere. I've had a search around.

I have a fair bit of bodyfat to lose (50lbs ).

I've been to the gym a few times over the years (over eight years) but just lost heart due to poor gains (I think partly due to a severely underactive thyroid, now finally being treated).

Anyway - I've been back now three months and it's going okay.

I'm determined to achieve my goal before I hit 30. I want to stick at this now.

I've seen some posts that say if your bodyfat is high, you should not take gear.

I thought such a person would be an ideal candidate.

This might be simplistic logic, but my thinking would be this (assuming one eats properly and trains regularly) -

    - the gear will allow you to build more muscle than just training naturally.

    - muscle is metabolically active, whereas fat is not.

    - the more muscle one has, the higher one's metabolic rate and the greater the ability to burn fat.

The Holy Grail for someone looking to drop bodyfat.

Could anybody show me where I've got this wrong? (I'm not trying to be smart, I am genuinely interested in hearing your views. I really do want to learn).

    Thanks guys!

Thats a general mis-conception that AAS burn fat. They aid in the process some. But they will not help a person with a poor diet and cardio and high bodyfat.

    Thanks guys.

Fez, I wasn't saying that AAS directly burn the fat.

I thought that as AAS aid in building muscle, the muscle increases the metablic rate and then that aids fat-burning.

for someone in your situation bro...I would get a plan of diet(diet forum would be a great help) & cardio & stick with it for a while since you have had the history of falling off in the past.Stick with your plan...make some goals(timeline)for fat loss FIRST.get that all in check where you are making good progress WITHOUT AAS for an extended period..become gym rats like the rest of us & in the meantime research & learn more & when you are closer to where you want to be ,then consider some gear at that point in time.your goals RIGHT NOW can be achieved with proper diet & cardio & WITHOUT AAS.

    Everything you said is true.

And this is the only way in which AAS help shed bf, some harden you up, but thats a different story alltogether...

The only problem is, that b4 AAS, one should have his diet and training in complete check, and if you do, you prpbably don't need the help of AAS for sheding bf...

    One important thing to add:

AFAIK Testosterone (or any other aromatizable steroid) is converted to estrogen in fatty tissue -> The more fat, the more estrogen is formed from the initial hormone -> the more estrogen, the more water you will retain and the more fat you will gain..

That is why i belive it is necassary to start a cycle relativley low in BF (at least 15%..) That i just my opinion though.

using AS to pack on muscle mass means you have to bulk. Bulking, clean or dirty, requires you to eat at a caloric surplus. Caloric surplus means some of it will turn to fat (especially if you use popular bulking AS like d-bol, anadrol, deca). AFter bulking, you cut, and you use AS to MAINTAIN the mass you gained, and that new LBM, which like u say is metabolically active, will help you shed fat faster.

    Conclusion:
    1. It makes no sense for you to go on AS bulking with a high BF..you will just add more fat to what you already have (even though you gain muscle)...
    2. You can't start an AS cutting because you dont have the muscle mass from bulking that you need to maintain..
    3. SO, like the other bros suggested, you should naturally lose weight first by formulating a diet/exercise plan and sticking to it for atleast 6 months to reap the benefits without AS...you will be surprised at the results
