    Pimple Under the Skin

A few days ago I developed a pimple under my skin about an inch below my eye. The friggin thing is red and swollen and makes my left eye look extremely puffy. I've tried Retin-A, OTC stuff, acidic smoothing gel, and warm compresses and it still hasn't formed a head. Anyone know of any other way to bring this out? Is it possible not a pimple but a cyst or something? yikes!

    take pics..

    how big it is?

You may have over treated it.

On another extreme - have u come into contact with anything? kissed anyone who may have had a cold sore?

Hey, thanks for the response. It's about the size of what a regular-to-large pimple would feel like under the skin. It's just red and swollen, but there's probably no doubt that I've over-treated it. I've been putting stuff on it every couple of hours so I'm sure that's probably contributed somewhat to the redness. I dunno. Unfortunately I don't have a webcam or digital camera so pics would be pretty use-less. And I've been with my g/f now for almost 6 months and she's the only one I've kissed so I don't believe it's anything communicable.

Any suggestions? Should I just wait it out or try something else?

Sounds like what is called cystic Acne. For that type of pimple, treating it actually makes it worse. Just let it go away, it will. If you get Cystic Acne all over your face and body, Accutane is the only answer to solve that. But if it's just one thing on your face, just wait it out and keep your skin clean so no bacteria gets in there and it can heal up.

Thanks for the help STAYHUNGRY. I've maybe had this once before but I don't even remember. I'll leave it alone and keep it clean.

I looked up pictures of cystic acne and what I have does not appear to look like that at all...but maybe that's because it's only one "cystic pimple" and not acne? I dunno.

    Cystic Acne

The easiest way to tell if you have Cystic Acne is that you cannot pop the zit on your face. In typical acne, the sebaceous glands produce too much oil and that oil comes to the surface of your face as either a "whitehead" or a "blackhead". You can push the oil out of your skin or "pop the zit" as is commonly called. However cystic acne happens when your sebaceous glands produce too much oil but instead of the extra oil coming to the surface of your skin, it actually cloggs up the entire pore of your skin deep down, WAY down deep. It just feels like a deep bruise and you cannot pop it but it's really annoying. The actual walls of your skin pore are clogged and you just have to wait it out and make sure no further bacteria get in there.

Fortunately it's probably a quarter of the size today that it was yesterday. It'll probably be completely gone by Sat. woohoo.

I get these ****ers on my face sometimes, it'll feel like a bump and hurt like a pimple but you cannot pop it no matter how hard you pinch, then my face will just turn red or mangled up in that one area and look like a bigger mess!!!! If there is one thing on this planet I'm obsessive compulsive about, it's shit on me thats not supposed to be there. I will **** with it and look at it, and **** with it some more, I really need to quit. Here is something I do now when I have one of these bastards, I find the bump and I take an insulin suringe and poke it to give it some type of reservoir to come out of. Then I'll gently pinch it and see if anything comes out, if it doesnt then leave it alone. I'm a sick ****

HAHA...My girlfriend said to me "Hey honey, why don't you take one of those needles you use for your stuff and try to pop it?" I don't think she was serious, but I wasn't sure. I didn't do it though lol

It won't pop. It's less than a quarter of the size that it was and you can barely tell its there but it's still under my skin.

I feel the same way. I have the same problems. I get those and there's nothing you can do. The only thing since it doesn't come to a whitehead you can use cover up. Whatever it takes man. I'm vain too I guess. I don't like looking like a freak, lol.

    ACNE

It's barely there anymore, but it's definitely still there. I've tried popping with a needle (but got only blood), and have used warm compresses and OTC Clean & Clear stuff and even my Rx Retin-A. I'm hoping it'll go away on it's own soon, but if not I'll have a derm pop it.

Had almost exactly what you describe. It turned out to be a Staph infection. Do not attempt to lance or drain the sore. Anything in your face region is dangerous because it is too close to your sinus(which can reach your brain), you risk causing infection in your sinus which can affect your brain, sounds very serious for a small blemish but serious none the less....Let us know how you make out..

I'm going to make an apt. to see the dermatologist because it's still there after 3 weeks. Yes it's gotten smaller and less visable but it's still there and it's buggin the crap out of me. Thanks for the advice Godfather. I'll let you know.

I went to the dermatologist today. He said it was nothing to worry about and that I needed to give it more time and it would go away.

So was it just cyctic acne? I get those from time to time.

  27. #27
Actually, he didn't really say what it was. I told him I've had it for about 3 weeks but that it's decreased in size by about 90% but hasn't yet gone away. He said give it more time and it'll go away. I asked if it was just a regular pimple or blemish and he said it was. Ifit doesnt go away then I can always have it drained but he didnt recommend doing that at this time. You really can barely see it, but it's enough to bother me.

Acne drugs tend to drastically and relatively harshly modify the environment of the gut. Long term antibiotics aren't a good idea at all to me, and Accutane just doesn't sound good at all:
    http://www.naturalessentials.com/accutane.htm .

Besides modifying your diet (which is extremely correlated to acne) I'd look into other alternatives besides the ones recommended by your dermotologist. I can assure his goals are far different than your own.
