    labrum tear

i have a posterior labrum tear.
    im dealing with some pain.
the doc said that i will need some surgery
he wants to wait a month.
he said the standard protocol for this type injury is to do some physical therapy and see if we can get me to the point where i'm comfortable.

    i want to be 100%

have any of you guys delt with this type of injury?
how well did you function before surgery?
can i live with this tear and still be able to go heavy in the gym?

i need an aggressive doctor who wants to jump right into this and get me patched up.

pm me if you know of a good shoulder guy in north texas

i think a lrg percentage of people w posterior labrum tears end up having to have surgery..

the theory of going through the PT is that if you dont recover from the tear after the PT (which is usually the case), you improve your tone and will have an easier successful surgery and a quicker recovery time

i would not try to live w it and keep going heavy..but chances are you will need the surgery..should you go through the PT? hard to say..it could not hurt you, but it will cause your total recovery time to lengthen as opposed to finding a doc that will do the surgery right away w/out the PT

go with the pt first, conservative treatment always first, see what happens. as far as going heavy, sure you can keep doing it, but you will only cause more damage and i more complicated surgery in the future with a far less chance of full recovery

    thanks guys

any further input is much appreciated
you can never know to much.

this is a quote from a vet on another board he had both shoulders done.

Had BOTH shoulders done within a year for the same thing. Rehab won't work, it's for trying to strengthen the rotator cuff muscles to hold the humerous tighter in what's left of the "socket". My "heavy" was about 2/3's my normal heavy weight and every training session ended up with me eating naproxen like M&M's....The first surgery was for my right shoulder on 4/1/05 and I'm VERY happy with the results. The second, on my left shoulder, was 2/3/06. I'm in the tail end of rehab and still get some pain from it, I'm pushing a bit much on the things that annoy it as well as sometimes sleeping on it.

I supplemented both surgeries with Cissus Rx from *****, the first shoulder I took it about 2 months post surgery, the second I was taking it about a week post surgery, my PT and surgeon were amazed at my recovery though no two surgeries ever heal the same. I swear it did help, that and the fact that since I had been through it once I was more inclined to push a bit harder with my rehab the second go around.

Get it done ASAP, you'll deal with about 3 weeks of pain post surgery and make sure you have a recliner to sleep on....no way will you be able to sleep on a bed. Believe me, even with the percocets and vics the pain will come through the haze if you try to sleep on a bed. Don't know where you are but I missed almost 2 summer's worth of fun, that's why I got the second one done as early as possible.

Make SURE you do the follow up PT......
