Under what forms is ephedrine legally and over the counter available in America? in Canada?

second question, can you walk in the pharmacy and ask for generic straight up pharmacuetical grade ephedrine?

In my area, (east coast US), you can buy bottles of 48 pills, like $8. It's 25mg ephedrine, and 200mg guaifenesin,(whatever the hell that is). These are sold in convenient stores.
