Thread: Post workout carbs??

    Post workout carbs??

I take in 50g of protein and 100g of carbs. Is eating 2 bagels good for post workout?? Thats what I have been doing. How much carbs is a banana? What about dextrose, how much would I need for that if I wanted to test that? Do I still take in 100g of dextrose?

drop the bagels and try 60g dextrose with 30g protein PWO... if it doesnt seem to work, then up the dex to 80 and the whey to 40...

by "work", I mean stuff like breaking out into a sweat, muscles feeling full and maybe even that lightheaded feeling from a sudden shift in blood composition when you know insulin is spiking in your blood full time (from the dex)...

I personally find oats/whey and a little dex best PWO, as do many bb on AR. Try both to see what works.
That much dex makes me crash an hour or so later.

100g of carbs is what everyone says and all the articles? And 50g of protein too much? I weigh 205lbs. I always have been doing this. I basically take in 2 scoops of ON whey thats 48g protein. So I should take 50g of dex?

the rule of thumb for PWO shake is 2:1 carb: protein .... from there you can experiment up and down abit here and there, and see what works for you

one banan is around 20g-25g carbs.

100g dex is not needed. 60-70 is plenty. But bagels or bananas does the trick just as well.

The bagels are perfectly fine. That being said, most bagels I buy come out to 60 carbs per bagel. Either way I think two might be overdoing it on the carb intake PWO. I always toss in two scoops Dymatize, 1/4 cup of dex and half a bagel. HAs been working out rather well- no crash from the dex which is what I was going for.

IF you're going to down the bagels, though, make sure they aren't high in fibre and that they are low in fat.

As many know I don't supplement so I'd recommend 10g's of BCAA's with liquid aminos immediately PWO with say 20-30grams of dextrose/maltodextrin, and then 30 mins after take in your meal (say 4oz chicken + 1.5cups B.Rice or 8-10oz Yam w/1cup veg, I prefer something like corn+peas here).

Works great for me and I've been seeing superior results, hard to say if it's from this meal alone because my whole nutrional plan has changed for the better and my training style/intensity has risen.

100g is way to much dext for me. It just makes me feel gross afterwards. I stay around 50-60g pwo. Im about to finish my bag of dext, probably just gonna have something else in place of it. Banannas are good, a lot healthier to.

bananas are good PWO but don't take the place of dex. I would do like 1 banana and 1/2 cup oats if I were you. I'm personally not super horny about dex like I said earlier, stick to oats and whey but thats me.

oats dont even give a insulin spike right away. oats are slow acting carbs, i need fast acting for pwo.

Says who? the supplement companies? lol

You don't need them bro, that is what the mainstream belief is and what is parroted over and over among these boards. Get away from these boards and quit reading the magazines in the stores and you'll soon realize in real life most successful BB'ers aren't supplementing hardly at all, but rather make money off the contracts and are paid to act/say they use the products.

I'd stick with wholefoods, if needed add honey directly PWO with your BCAA's and then a meal 30mins following.

i make a whole food meal a hour later after my pwo shake. That is kind of true how do I know whatever if this actually works and the protein, but there are studies.
