I just read two books by bbing guru Chris Aceto and I have some info to pass on. Aceto preaches that the ultimate rep range for SIZE is 6-12 reps to failure. Higher reps promote endurance (the ability to perform lots of reps) and lower reps (less than 6) promote strength without mass. This is why powerlifters can lift enormous pounds without getting huge. If you want to get strong only, I would recommend training in the 1-6 rep range, this means pushing weights that you CANNOT lift more that 6 times. You should see strength increases come pretty quick. Remember though that form is critical when pushing yourself with low reps. You have to be perfect and really watch it carefully or injuries will follow.Originally Posted by kme1024
Good luck!
Lift heavy, heavy and heavier. Your rep range should be 3-6 reps. This will definitely build strength.
Heavy weight and low reps. Seems to be the consensus.Originally Posted by pvit486
i would say the most important thing here is your nutrition. everybody always talks about powerlifters not being huge but shit...show me one who isnt cutting down for a weight class that isnt a big dude and i will show you 30 for every one of him that are. dont eat alot, dont eat to grow, and you probably wont get much bigger. in fact, its almost a certain fact that you wont. putting on muscle just isnt that easy thats its going to happen to you on accident or there wouldnt be a need for this board.
