Im gonna be in the market for a bike pretty soon, was wondering if any of you have owned either. Im looking at the Sportster 1200, or the Triumph America. I like em both, but the Triumph doesnt even have an 800cc engine.

I would go for the Triumph if you can afford it... but I wouldn't want a nice tri to be a first bike,,, not your first bike right...
If you like the way you fit on an 800 then a 1200cc might feel too big.... me I look like a clown on an 800 unless its tripped out with cursier shet.
I'm looking at the Dyna line from HD now... Im likin the FX DB Street Bob

how do you paste pictures without loading them
I can get hooked up with the Triumph for around 7gs, the Harley 800 would be around 9 or so out the door. I have some riding experience, lots of dirt bikes and a little street bike rinding, but you are right, I still dont know if I wanna buy new. I can get a used Triumph for like 5. I love Harleys, but I fell in love with the Triumph. How do you like the look of it?Originally Posted by mmaximus25
Nothing wrong with Triumph, But its hard to get that "sound" out of them. Your gona want some stright pipes (Samsons) If I were you I find a used sporty ( 1200 if you can. The 1200 produces some serious Horsepower) and use the extra cash to customize it. Youll get more respect on a Harley. The big down fall with Harley's is that everything is expensive, esp. if its got that dam LOGO on it.
Ive got a Softail Springer, and would'nt trade it for anything.
Nothing wrong with either, BUT take if from me, you will want a bigger bike in less than a year if you do any serious riding!!
Depending where you live, I've always seen Triumph depreciate to fast.
They tend to hold value a whole lot in CA. I live up north right now. A lot of country riding possibilities. Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, etc.... Just kind of scenic cruising. Ive had harley dealers even tell me that I would get bored of the 800 real quick. They were probably just trying to make more money off me. The Triumph with the pipe sounds alright, and it can be jetted to add horsepower.Originally Posted by Prada
Well it depends what type of a rider you are and what you want to do. Albeit, it sounds like you already know what you want.Originally Posted by JDawg1536

I can respect all bikes. But rookie was just making up stories.Originally Posted by JDawg1536
Aren't both those bikes just physically small for you?
I dont think so. I like being on a smaller bike anyway, feel more in control. Im not that big anyway. Ive thought about a CBR600, but Im gonna be doin too much long distance riding for that.Originally Posted by gixxerboy1
can you afford a rocket III? those things look like a classroom radiator in two wheels. i luv 'em
I don't know what you consider long distance. But i used to have a cbr 600 and ride it pretty far. I thought it was comfortable.
BTW how many batteries do those toys take?![]()
I love em too, but its just way too much bike for me. 2300cc or somethin like that. Maybe down the road.Originally Posted by J.S.N.
1200 or bigger... your my height and are only about 25lb less... Man I didn't want to jump back into riding with a brand new bike so my dad gave me and my bro this 03 800 intruder...
Its ok for fuking around but if your already back to riding get a bigger bike.
at least a 1200cc... I dont like the lighter 800 on the highway man... 1500cc in most bikes rides nice on the highway to me...
I'm, kinda lookin at other bikes but I really like the HD Dyna series...
I like the way triumph looks though... I also like Indians... though...
good luck with which ever you choose... I think I will go HD
Well funny you say that, Indian is another option. My brother in laws dad is probably gonna buy a dealership since they are going to produce them in 07 again, so I can wait and get one of those. I love the Indians.Originally Posted by mmaximus25
i would steer clear of indians. last time they brought them back it lasted for all of what- 4 years? i can't remember but it was short. you're going to be SOL for alot of things, esp. if you travel with it.
I dont think a 600 is good for highway, inner city sure or on off higway... and yeah if you wanna go fast and have control around corners, and tight leans U wanna light bike for that... but thats all crotch rocketsOriginally Posted by JDawg1536
I thought we were talkin cruisers, I got the speed freak out of me and Im not tryin to go 80 around a tight corner... if I wanna go fast I'm goin straight... rocket or not...
I would like to see what the indians will be like but I like the old ones, not for alot of riding though... thats why Im lookin at a bike like the Dyna HD thats gonna get rid during the week and weekend...
A Harley Sportster is definately a good bike. The 1200 weight not much more than the 800, and is way more powerfull, and has a better resale.Originally Posted by JDawg1536
I'd go for the 1200 Sportster.
some stupid gas station clerk asked me if i knew anyone lookinf for a bike the other day. it was like a year old 1200 sportster for 11k. i was like, "yeah i'll *ha* talk to some people *lolz!*... no."
imo..... i think the sportster is just too small of a bike, and you will out grow it fast. but it will cost you alot of money to get into a big twin harley. i have a softtail nighttrain, and wouldnt trade it for the world. and it is not too heavy, but not FAST either...... rides nice..... sporties i think are just good beginer bikes......my .02cents
I have yet to ride the new Triumph's. I own a 79 Bonneville Special, if they still got a similair transmission style I would go for Triumph, thing shifts smooth as butter. I also have a 93 Sportster 1200 XLHor XLT not sure, but it shifts like a pyle of crap, but man does it have torque. 97 Fat Boy too, unbelievable ride.Originally Posted by JDawg1536
Go on buy a Rocket III. I did.
Damn, that's a blurry picture.
