Yeah it doesnt seem that nobel prizes are garnering much media attention this year.
It should have been given 1400 years ago , The Quran spoke clearly about the creation of the universe through a big bang and also how its still expanding.
" Do the Unbelievers not see that the heavens and the earth were a closed-up mass (ratqan), then We clove them asunder (fataqna)? And We made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe? (Surah Al-Anbiyaa 21:31)
and for the expanding of the universe ..
"And the heaven We built with Our own powers (aydin) and indeed We go on expanding it (musi'un)" (Surah 51: 48)
the interesting thing to be noted is that the argument , why didnt Muslims use this theory or patent it way back then or even 300-400 yrs later , because the understanding of cosmology was still pretty primitive , and these verses only became noticeable when the theory was actually concieved by mans understanding , and that is true about the Quran in many other aspects of science aswell , ofcourse there will be people who overlook on basis of a fixed bias...

No one cares about science anymore, less and less people are following pure science educations(especialy physics is going down) and no one talks about science in media.Originally Posted by Prada

Why be a boring scientists when you can make millions rapping about murder or flash your boobs in a reality show?
That's ridiculous. This generation is just filled with morons. I think people aren't interested because they fundamentally can't believe what they are hearing. A lot of this stuff sounds like science fiction, butt he fact it's mathematically backed up to more precision than the Idol voting system is awesome!Originally Posted by johan

The fact that people would rather watch Simon Cowell degrade people then spend 99 cents to vote on a contest that does not matter over say, learning about how there can possibly be other dimensions around us, just does not make sense.
I feel for ya Johan.

Amen to that, people have full wallets and empty souls.Originally Posted by Prada

I think science is loosing popularity because we have no real spokesperson anymore. I mean before we had Carl Sagan, Arthur C clarke, Feynman and other great persons. Nowdays we have no one :/
I mean kids used to grow up with loads of popular science on tv, heck just 10 years ago there was alot more pop science on swedish tv atleast.
Now nothing.
Maby its like you say, that money, objects and quick fame are the only thing people crave nowdays. Im glad Im not to hooked up to that. I never have time to enjoy any gadgets anywayBut it would be nice with a new computer and a x-box

I cant imagine any scientists now gaining the popularity that einstein had back in his day. I mean hell the old geezer was almost a damn sex icon for christ sake.
It takes a monumental discovery to get monumental attention. I think popular science gained a lot of attention due to the Manhattan Project in Einstein's day.Originally Posted by johan

Well consider the inventor of the semi conductor? Or the laser? Those two discoveries have had a bigger impact on society than just about anything else ever since all modern technology is based on it. Yet no one(heck not even me) know who the hell invented it.
People dont care about what makes things work anymore, they just take for granted that it do work...
Einstein was acctualy famous 30 years before the manhattanBut the manhattan sure did start the big science epok where scientists got loads and loads of cash for projects.

I just think society has less values and the concept of hard work and honour have been bartered for instant gratification, fame, for objects that lack substance, value and even less so, merit. Look at music, reality shows, hollywood stars, internet, movies. There is no stopping this behemoth of a movement. Much due to mainstream media.Originally Posted by johan

I do not forsee anyone having the influence, importance and fame of Einstein in science nor politics, never, probably ever. The grandeur, the likes of Einstein, Churchill, Napoleon, Marx, Darwin et cetera brought upon us....is, unfortunately, a thing of the past.
It is sad, we live in a truly wastefull society. Media is truly programing kids today to seek the quick paths to fame and money. Its defenetly like you say that the concept of hard work is gone.Originally Posted by Prada
Maby we are becoming decadent like the romans before us :/

I guess its hard for people to be role modells nowdays when every famous persons life is disected into bits and pieces by the media.Originally Posted by Prada

Yet the journalist did not write about that even though it was a open secret. Because that man was a decent man and a great leader. They had respect.
Today the journalist would be on him like a hyena and tear him and his career to bits and pieces. It doesnt matter how good a man is, if he has ever done anything dirty they will smear it all over him.
Had Einstein lived today he would have been painted as a cheating bastard by the newspapers, a cruel father and a wierdo. Granted he was those things but that doesnt take away from the fact that he was a great man.
Churchills drug problems and mental problems would have been on the headlines and so on. No respect anymore.![]()
The worst part is that people would love it, I dont think there is anything that gives more satisfaction to people than to read about the sins of the famous. We literaly wallow in it.
If we ever get a new genious like Einstein that revolution science I hope he will be able to stay fairly anonymous. Otherwise everyone is going to search for dirt on him just because of pure jealousy.
