spoke with trainer re: hitting mult. heads

Spoke with a trainer yesterday about hitting multiple heads. She was an anatomy major in college and has all the credentials to back it up, she also works for a DI college football & track program. She said that there is absolutely no way you can alter say the shape of of your arm. Regardless of which heads of the tricep/bicep you hit with an exercise. She said that yes it helps to hit multiple heads to ensure that u reach full hypertrophy in every workout, but say if u wanted a bigger outter bicep, doing ezbar curls with an inside grip (as advocated in every bb'ing book/article) will only pump more blood into the outer part of the muscle. The shape it choses to develop is strictly genetic. What do you guys think about this?

genitics determine the shape of the muscle so you definitly cant change that. i do believe that you can stress certain areas of a muscle harder than others making those certain areas grow more. a good example of this is doing incline presses for your upper chest. if you focus mainly on incline movements, it is a fact that your upper chest will grow better than if you didnt include any incline movements at all.

Because the pectorial muscle isn't all one connected muscle group Zodiac, The shape is still determined by your genetics, the amount of development would be determined by training.

she actually used that as an example saying that the chest is so large it is almost two separate muscles where as something like the tricep is three different heads... i really didnt understand what she ment by that... kind of get it now though

Get an excercise anatomy book, they are very helpful in seeing how the muscular system works and how to properly isolate each muscle group.
