    Weak ass arm

    Meh,

I was trying to do bicep curls in the gym yesterday, but my left arm lags far behind my right arm -- uneven straight bar curls, can't do same dumbell weight, etc etc.

I suppose it is natural for your dominate arm to be stronger, but is there a good way to correct/minimize the effect, in essence bringing the off arm up to speed with the stronger one?

people will say:do an extra exercise on the lagging body part, but ive found that consistant training along with extra focus on ballancing the weight sorts any arm problems out.it will just take time.but if you arent having any luck try eaking out another rep with the lagging arm.

What I do is mixup both dumbbell and barbell exercsies. So for example I will do curls with an EZ-Bar (yeah I know some guys dont like them but its less strain on my wrists) and I will also do Hammer Curls or Incline Alternating Curls so I incorporate both barbells as well as dumbbells. If you have one arm stronger then that arm will start to take over for the weaker one when using barbells and then doing dumbbells following that you will force each one to pull their own weight (no pun intended). Keep both dumbbells loaded at the same weight until you can increase both evenly.

ive been seeing alot of this lately one side being bigger or stronger and alot of people keep answering do more the weak side but i dont like that idea i think if you keeep doing the same exercises and focus on the movements and the stretches they will do the work themselves and even out....i think the problem is thinking one side is smaller or weak when yhou do more your overtraing and preventing growth...so jsut you strict form and dont overcompensate

Thanks much for all of the advice.

I usually work on the straight bar for 4-5 sets and then hit the dumbells for another 4-5 sets on bicep days - and the difference between my arms is huge. It's easy to see the compensation with the straight bar, and with equal weight dumbells, I get about half the reps with my left arm as the right.

What about hitting lighter weights on the dumbells so I hit max reps with my left arm, and then just do more reps with the right? I don't really want to quit working my right arm, but the difference between them is irritating.
