Breathing during abs how important is it?

How important is it to fully exhale during the positive contraction of an ab exercise?

I think breathing is just as important weather you are working the chest, shoulders, quads, tris, bis, abs, etc. You shouldnt hold your breath nor force out every last breath you have either.

If you hold your breath during exercise you cause a responce called Valsalva. Which in effect cuts off venous blood return from your diaphram down and causes a rapid rise in blood pressure. This also causes a rapid increase in heart rate. All of this is bad of course so breath normal no matter the exercise. Plus if you exhale all your breath (hyper ventilate) you can cause a state of alkylosis which is means you have changed the PH level of your blood.
