    Ankle Injury

    Hey folks,

I was playing in a game of Ultimate Frisbee over the weekend and I did a number to my right ankle. I was in an all out sprint as I went to plant my right foot down. Unfortunately, I think I stepped on a rock or something that cause my ankle to turn inward. I pretty much stepped on the outside of my ankle as I planted my right foot. I also heard a "pop" when this happened. I'll be headed to the doctor sometime today to have it checked out.

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this?

    Grace and Peace,
    Mavsluva

(PS - I know that I have ugly feet! As you'll notice, I have flat feet as well!)

I heard the same "pop" in my ankle a month and a half ago in ju-jitsu class when a guy put my heel into a heel hook. It still hasn't healed up yet. Hope it's nothing bad. What did the doc say about your ankle?

No structural damage. He said, "Wrap it up with a supporting bandage and ice it as often as possible." So I iced it on occassion and it eventually healed.

Heck, I ran a marathon on it one month later with no problems! (notice the original post was on 11/13/06).

Wow, a marathon, huh? I'd like to run a little bit, but until the pain goes away I don't think I should. I had barely any swelling, so I only iced it once or twice. I'll start icing it some more.

I had massive ankle injuries while I was in the military. Try rolling your ankle inward wearing army issued boots wearing 75 pounds of gear in the middle of a 20k ruck march, then finishing the march and this type of thing was a regular occurence for like 3 straight years. I am actually getting paid disability forever because of that
Everytime it happened to me I followed the protocol of R.I.C.E.

    Rest
    Ice
    Compress
    Elevate

That's about all you can do. I tried using ankle braces, supplementing with glucosomine, MSM, and Chondroitin, but in the end, it was a losing battle.

I think footwear has a lot do with it. Since I have been out of the military and wearing sneakers, I haven't had any issues. Seriously, I almost never sprain my ankle anymore and it used to be a daily thing.

Same exact thing with me, I was in the Army and Airborne and CONSTANTLY rolled my ankles but now its less and less. I have a lasting knee injury that Uncle Sam is paying for from a bad jump.
