looks like we've got ourselves a mystery!
I find I get hip pain when I squat very wide... for me, I have always had loose joints and I suspect there is a structural problem in the hip joint itself. If I narrow my stance even a bit it is fine...
So... have you tried varing width stances?

does it affect your deadlift as well?
I'm not sure but if you lift Sumo I can see it being the same. My deadlift stance is sholder width and so I don't experience the same problem.Originally Posted by donpinn
