Question Caffeine with Post Workout (PWO) Shake???

I had a thought when I just took some Excedrin to get rid of my headache.

Excedrin adds caffeine to speed up the process of eliminating headaches. It works really well for me too. Usually my headaches are gone in 15 minutes of taking Excedrin. Tylenol (acetaminophen) does not do this for me nor does asprin alone which are also both ingredients in Excedrin.

Now it is recommended to use dextrose (sugar) in your PWO shake for an insulin spike to deliver nutrients to your muscles quickly right after a workout when they are in dire need of replenishment and repair.

Wouldn't it also be beneficial to add caffeine to really speed up the process of the PWO shake?

Does anyone do this or has anyone else thought of it?

Actually caffeine slows down the insulin spike caused by fast release sugars

I don't follow, caffiene will not "speed up the process" as far as i have read it may hinder it.

Ive read that caffeine causes its own insulin spike.Being hypoglycemic I can tell you that my blood sugar drops from a cup of black coffee

Hmmm. I just wonder how it would compare to making Excedrin work so fast?

So if it works against the insuline spike and actually lowers blood sugar levels then it would make the dextrose useless I suppose.

I'm a diabetic and use ALA and biotin to help control my sugar as many diabetics do.
This is why I never take ALA and biotin with my PWO because those lower blood sugar levels and the idea of a PWO with dextrose is to higher your blood sugar levels.

Caffeine restricts blood vessels.. I'd never have it Pre or PWO.

are you sure about that I**? I have heard that caffeine has been clinically proven to increase muscular endurance and pain threshold, among other things...

Do you think that the positives could weight out the negatives in this case?
I am mainly speaking of caffeine pre-WO...

Caffeine is a stimulant and works basically the same way the pseudephedrine works on the nervous system, it decreases parasympathetic CNS feedback increasing heartrate and other things.

The point of taking Dextrose (Glucose) is because the process that causes cells to ingest protiens is based on a insulin sensitive cell membrane receptor. It makes since that if there is low insulin that no protien is availble for uptake.

I haven't looked that far into it, I self motivate going to the gym so I don't use stimulents.. but I've always noticed when I take caffeine I lose vascularity and a bit of muscle fullness during contest prep. So I personally stay away from it.

Its a slight diuretic but also cause vasoconstriction. Its good for fat burning if taken 30 min before exercise however its has a negative effect at 2 hours before. It a funny substance, there are lots of exercise phys papers coming out now on it.

I have been taking Yerba Mate. It's a tea like drink from south america. Very natural and mildly stimulating. It's great to get hardcore after a day in the f**king office.
