DUDE whatever you do don't get cingular. It is the worst fvcking service EVER!!!! I have had them all and the VERY BEST is Verizon. I had verizon and left them to get that stupid fvckin razor that verizon didn't have but came out with a month later and it was the worst move ever. You ever see the cingular commercials when they say fewest dropped calls? Thats because the calls don't drop the phone just freezes up and you cant even end the call. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but from my experience Verizon is the best.

Actually, find the phone you like best and go with that. Don't worry about the network. 97% of the time, the "towers" are shared, meaning every carrier or most have an antenna on a leased tower. This is pretty much the norm now. Usually when you have coverage issues, it's the handset itself that is causing the problem. If you drop calls it usually isn't a signal issue. It's a switching issue. Whenever you drop a call, you are attempting to connect to a tower that is already "full." A tower only has so many channels available so when a ton of people are on that tower, you drop the call. As you move, you switch from tower to tower. What happens when you drop a call is that you swtiched to a tower that is already full.

So... buy whatever phone you like best. You are also better off buying an "unlocked" phone if you go with GSM technology (i.e. Cingular or TMobile) so you can use the phone with either carrier. Just stick the SIM card in.

How do I know this? I'm a prototype engineer at Cingular. I design, validate, and certify handsets from various manufacturers before they are released to the public.

p.s. Wait until January before you do anything. Second week in January is CES and all the new handsets are "released" then. For more info: www.cesweb.org

and before Cingular, I worked at General Motors designing the OnStar components (the modems) for the Verizon network. So, I've done both sides of the RF.

Correct. CES is the "Consumer Electronics Show." That's where all the "new" products are introduced. For instance, Motorola will unveil all their "new" handsets at this show. So will Samasung, and everyone else. It's the biggest electronics show in the world. Every piece of electronics you could imagine and every manufacturer is there.

I'm going to the show, as I do every year. At the same time as this show, there's another I tend to visit called AVN. http://www.avnawards.com/
Anyways, I always wait to buy anything that involves electronics until after this show. I'm in the market for a new 1080P plasma but I'm waiting until the show to see what's coming out.

Usually after the first day of the show. What happens is that "opening day" the manufacturers release all the new stuff, but it's already at the carrier ready for sale. They just have to wait to "put it on the floor" for sale until after the first day of the show.

    Nope. RAZR.

KRAZR was 5 months ago. The "new" RAZR comes out soon. It's completely different from the current RAZR. It's better. That's all I can tell you. It's one of those "If I tell you I'll have to kill you" type secrets.

Cingular is horrible, my sister has it and I can never get through to her. I've had the best experience with Sprint, but it all depends on your area some carriers have more towers in certain cities/states

Depending where you are some providers are better. I think overall Verizon is the best and that's what I currently have. Not a fan of motorola products i.e. razor.
