Sometimes sudden changes in dietary intake will upset the microflora of your intestines. Protien is a very good example of this because the bacteria when faced with a new enviromental condition such as increase protien have to manufacture new enzymes to break down the protiens. This can cause increase in gas production, increased acidic waste, increased nitrogenous waste.
Interesting side note, when you have really bad gas it isnt you producing the gas its bacteria producing exessive Hydrogen Sulfide, which gives your farts the familiar rotten egge smell.
